This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
The client is developing a site with Italian as the default language and English as an additional language. After activating WPML Media Translation, some images in the Media Library are duplicated in the default language (Italian), with the same filename, file path, and both marked with the Italian flag. Each duplicated pair points to the same physical file and appears under the Italian tab, causing confusion about why there are two Italian attachments for the same image instead of one in Italian and one in English.
Solution:
1. **Increase WordPress Memory Limit**: We recommend increasing your WordPress memory limit to at least 128MB, or ideally 256MB. You can do this by editing your
wp-config.php
file and adding or modifying the line:
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');2. **Backup Your Site**: Always create a full backup of your site and database before making changes.
3. **Adjust Media Translation Settings (Temporarily)**: To prevent further unwanted entries while cleaning up, adjust the setting in WPML → Settings under the Media Translation section by unchecking the problematic option.
If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If issues persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.
