Background of the issue:
I have reshaped my English homepage on hidden link. I want to duplicate that page to German, edit the German translation which has already been translated by Deepl, and then push the green button ':complete translation'.

Symptoms:
I received the message 'Translation in progress - wait before editing' and my German page is still in English.

Questions:
Why is my German page still in English after completing the translation?
What does the message 'Translation in progress - wait before editing' mean?
How can I ensure the German translation is applied correctly?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

Please go to WPML-> Translation Management-> Jobs, search for the homepage name, and cancel the stuck job.

After that, please try to translate the page and check if it will work correctly.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi,

I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi,

Thanks for the access details. Please let me know if you use CDN or a security firewall that could prevent your site from contacting WPML API.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi Osame,

I am not sure if we are using a CDN or a security firewall. What do you think, could WP-engine give me an answer to that question? Or can I send some DNS info?

Best Twan

Hi,

I took a local copy of your site, and the translation process worked correctly, so I think it could be something preventing your site from connecting to the API.

I think the WP Engine team can answer the CDN and firewall questions.

Best regards,
Osama

WP engine, gave me this answer:

Yes, WP Engine uses both a CDN and a proprietary firewall. These security measures could potentially prevent your site from contacting the WPML API.

To resolve the issue with the WPML API being blocked by the CDN or firewall, you can try the following steps:

Whitelist the WPML API: Ensure that the WPML API endpoints are whitelisted in your firewall settings.
Disable CDN Temporarily: Temporarily disable the CDN to see if it resolves the issue.
Check Firewall Rules: Review and adjust any custom firewall rules that might be blocking the API requests.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, please reach out to WP Engine Support for further assistance.

I am in a call with Wp-engine, they ask the following:

No worries! Just double checking as it can still be quite common, so thanks for clarifying 🙂

In that case, did they let you know which IP / IP range was communicating there so I can check on our side to see if that's getting blocked off potentially?

Hi,

Please make sure that the following paths are not blocked.

path: ^/wpml/tm/v1
path: ^/wpml/ate/v1
path: ^/wpml/st/v1
path: ^/wpml/v1

Best regards,
Osama

Sorry, Osama, and gratefull for your support, as i am totally blank on this,

please find the response

Hmm okay, that wouldn't be an IP range but those shouldn't be blocked, our file permissions remain the same (`0775` for directories, `0664` for specific files) so this likely wouldn't be the reason, especially if it's still happening after a while as those permissions, if modified do automatically get set back to these settings.

One thing WPML themselves mention is that Object Caching can have some problems with the plugin, but this has already been disabled too so it's not that, we can rule that out.

As mentioned, if WPML does require an IP range or specific IP address that needs to be allowed through for functionality, I can check to see if that's blocked and/or needs adding to our whitelist. However those are just file paths they've sent over, if they can provide this I'd be more than happy to take a look to see if that's the reason why! 🙂

Beside that, did you also try to translate the page on the candropharm environment? It might be that i have made a mistake by submitting the translation, so we rule out that the mistake is a human error from my side?

Hi,

Yes, I checked your site and created a hidden link">new test page, but the issue persists.

Please disable the Object cache, WP Engine cache, and CDN and check if the translation will work correctly.

Best regards,
Osama
