Background of the issue:
I am trying to edit the French version of my site hidden link using the classic editor in WPML. I changed a setting that altered the editing interface from a pencil icon to a gear icon, and I want to revert it back to the pencil icon.

Symptoms:
The editing interface shows a gear icon instead of a pencil icon, requiring a new style screen for editing.

Questions:
How can I change the setting back to use the pencil icon for editing in WPML?
What setting did I change that caused the gear icon to appear instead of the pencil icon?

Hello,

The "Gear" icon means that the translation is in progress.

It will switch to a "Pencil" icon if you complete the translation inside the WPML Translation Editor to 100%.

Alternatively you should be able to cancel the current translation job at WPML > Translation Management > Jobs.

Best regards
Andreas

What you do see on your screenshot is the Classic Translation Editor.

Are you expecting to see the Advanced Translation Editor?

Thank you again.

I use to click on the pencil ( WPML2 image ) and (WPML3 image) would come up instead.

Any possibility i can change a setting for that?

Tim

Please open the original content inside the WordPress-Editor and check the right sidebar.

Look for the section "Language" and make sure that the translation method is set to "WPML Translation Editor".

Now click the translation symbol again.

Good afternoon.

So, to be clear.... i don't want to have to reach 100% to make the pencil appear in all posts ( and get rid of the gear ALL TOGETHER) as i had it that way.

Need more informationo ?

The "Pencil" will only appear if the translation status is completed to 100%.

When translating a page or post for the first time, the status needs to be completed to 100% for the translated post or page to be available in second languages.

There is not way to avoid this, as this is how WPML works. You need to complete the translations manually inside the WPML Translation Editor or use automatic translation.

You can even use the "Translate Everything Automatically" mode which runs all the translations automatically in the background. Take note, that this requieres additional payments for translation credits.

Do I understand you right, that the translation status had changed out of nothing, without that you edited the original posts or pages?

Were those translations earlier completed to 100%?

Did you after that make changes to the original content?
