This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing an issue where random pages on your WordPress site open with the WordPress editor instead of the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) despite correct settings.
Solution:
1. Open the page (in the default language) in your WordPress editor.
2. In the right-hand sidebar, find the Language section.
3. Check which translation editor is selected. If it says 'WordPress Editor', click to change it to WPML editor.
4. When prompted, choose whether to use the WPML (Advanced) Translation Editor for just this page or for all pages of this type. Pick the option that fits your workflow.
5. Save or update the page.
After updating, go back to WPML → Pages (or the relevant translation dashboard) and click the plus icon for translation. The ATE should now open as expected.
To prevent this from happening on other pages, you can set your preferred editor for all content types in WPML → Settings → Translation Editor. This ensures ATE is used by default for future translations.
If you still see some pages opening the WordPress editor after these steps, double-check each affected page's Language settings as above.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

That page seems to work fine, but the fix does not seem to apply to all pages. For example the second of these 2 still have the WP option selected hidden link

Thanks for your reply. It seems the only way to fix this is by resending the page or post for translation from WPML > Translation Dashboard. I’ve already done this for the “ACL Rehabilitation Acute Management After Surgery-edit” page in French, and it’s now opening correctly using the Advanced Translation Editor. hidden link

Could you please try it on your end and let me know? If you need any guidance, I’ll be happy to assist.

Hello Kor

Yes, it works, but we have thousands of pages and sending all of the pages to Translation from the Translation Dashboard will take a good amount of time. Isn´t there another option? We have never had this issue before.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your reply. I've checked, and it looks like this is the only way for now. But if you insist, I can send it over to our 2nd Tier Support for further investigation but I will need you to share a snapshot of the site.

Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.

To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:

1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link

2. Consult WPML's instructions on providing supporters with a copy of your site: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/

3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.

Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.

Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.

Hello,

If I go to the Translation Dashboard and select all the pages and send them to Translation, this will not cause any issue with existing translated pages right?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. No, it will not cause issues. All translated contents are saved in the translated memory.

Hello Kor! It seems that all is fine now. This will not happen again with future updates, right?
