Background of the issue:
I am facing a major challenge with my website's redirections. I created a redirection from hidden link to hidden link, but it redirects to hidden link. This issue is occurring with many other URLs. I initially thought it was a problem with the Rank Math plugin, but their support informed me that the issue was caused by WPML.
Symptoms:
Redirections are pointing to incorrect URLs.
Questions:
Why are my redirections pointing to the wrong URLs?
How can I resolve the redirection issue caused by WPML?
While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly.
Can you please just check few things for us:
Please make sure to create a backup, before doing any actions or check in staging site, just in case.
- Make sure you have a backup.
- Disable all other plugins and leave active only WPML plugins
- Switch to WP default theme
- Check if the issue still happens.
- Disable WPML plugins, check if the issue still happens.
As for the other steps, I checked on those (disabling all other plugins save plugins &vice-versa), the redirect works when wpml is disabled. Hence, the problem seems clearly with wpmpl.
*Please see the screenshot of issue shown by rank math team.
kindly help resolving it as the issue is affecting scores of my pages on live site.
Despite charging a hefty amount for the software, your support is very slow and poor. I raised such a critical matter, scores of my pages are landing on wrong url, and you don't seem to care much.
Thank you for your patience while this was being reviewed.
I understand how critical this issue is for you, and I can see why it’s been frustrating.
I’ve looked into the redirect behavior and can confirm that it’s originating from WPML, which aligns with what the Rank Math team shared earlier.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)
**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **
I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.
NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.
I believe the issue here is happening because the slug is /india for multiple treatment pages, therefore WPML does a match which overrules the 301 redirect and points it to the page it's pointing to.
The issue seems related to the following one, please review my colleagues response and let me know your results. Adjusting the URL slightly would resolve the redirection issues.
Thanks for your response.
If there is any rule that is overriding the 301 redirect, you need to find a way to stop that. I cannot change urls of thousands of my pages now; that will be a absolute disaster for seo! I hope you understand.
Thanks for your message, and I completely understand your concern.
We’re looking into whether a rule is indeed overriding the 301 redirect and are doing our best to find a solution that doesn’t require any URL changes.
The case has been escalated to our second-tier team, and I’ll update you as soon as we hear back.
I hope you had a good weekend!
Kindly help urgently with matter; hundreds of my pages are affected by this; and traffic and rank has tanked. Kindly consider this with utmost urgency!
