Hi Jan,
Thanks for contacting WPML Support. I will be happy to assist you in this matter.
I understood what you're looking for but sorry to say, there is no way to strip these Shortcodes and HTML tags from the XLIFF. The Shortcodes and the HTML are also considered as part of the page contents. If you try to remove them, the end result will not be accurate as the default version. The translated version of the page may appear broken as Shortcode and HTML tags are missing. I hope you can understand.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need help. I will be happy to assist you.
Yes, you are correct! When using the Advanced Translation Editor to add translations for a page, only the translatable text content will be loaded into the editor. However, behind the scenes, the styles and layout will be copied. After saving the translation, a translated version of the page will be created with the translated content. The layout and style of the translated page will be the same as the default page.
Now, when you're exporting an XLIFF, the HTML and Shortcodes must need to be in the XLIFF file and there is no possible way right now to remove them. This ensures that after processing the XLIFF file and importing the target language XLIFF file back into the system, the translated page will have the same appearance as the original page.
I hope I'm able to clarify the Workflow of ATE and why it is necessary to have the HTML and Shortcodes in the XLIFF. Please let me know if there is anything else if you need help. I will be happy to assist you.
Best Regards,
Prosenjit
