This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is trying to set the flag for Traditional Chinese to display the Taiwan flag, but instead, the China flag is displayed. The Taiwan flags (tw.png, tw.svg, etc.) are already in the WPML flag library, but there is no option to switch to them.

Solution:
We recommend checking the solutions provided in the following documentation:

These resources guide you on how to change the language flag to a custom one, allowing you to use the Taiwan flag for Traditional Chinese.

If this solution does not seem relevant to your situation, please open a new support ticket and we will be happy to assist you further.

I am trying to:

Set the flag for Traditional Chinese

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:

Not live yet

I expected to see:

A flag from Taiwan

Instead, I got:

A flag from China

The Taiwan flags tw.png tw.svg etc. are already in WPML flag library. There is no way for me to switch to the flags that are already in the library. So how do I fix this?

Hi there.

Before this ticket gets assigned to my colleagues, I will try to help.

Can you please take a look at the solutions recommended by my colleague here:

I think that should work.

Please let us know how things go.

This is not the same case. The tw flag is already in WPML flag file folder. If it is already in, why do I need to upload a new one? Are you saying I have to download from WPML flag folder and upload them? It doesn't make sense.

It is a bug in WPML. When Traditional Chinese is selected, the Taiwanese flag should be shown. But it is not.

Secondly, I need to know what is the quickest way of copying the pages? I want to simply duplicate the Simplified Chinese pages into the new traditional Chinese pages.

New threads created by Mihai Apetrei and linked to this one are listed below:

Hi there.

In regards to the new question, per our Support Policy, we can handle only one issue per ticket.

Continuing with one issue per ticket helps not only supporters to focus on one issue at once, but also enables other users to find solutions to their questions faster.

I created a new ticket for you in regard to the new question here:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/split-what-is-the-quickest-way-of-copying-the-pages/

In regards to the current issue that we are talking about in this ticket:

1. Can you please let me know what is the exact flag that you need? Can you send me a screenshot of the correct flag?

2. I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Privacy and Security Policy

We have strict policies regarding privacy and access to your information. Please see:
https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/

**IMPORTANT**

- Please make a backup of the site files and database before providing us access.

- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box.

The private box looks like this: hidden link

I will be waiting for your response.

I downloaded the flag png from WPML flag directory. You can see a big version online hidden link

You don't need access to my site to see it. Simply check on your copy and select Traditional Chinese and you will see the same problem. It is displaying the same flag as Simplified Chinese.

Hi there and welcome back.

I ran a deeper check into our system and it seems that this request was also discussed in the past as it was brought up by other users, too, where some of them were preferring the Taiwan flag and some of them were preferring the Simplified flag.

You can see our final response here:
https://wpml.org/version/wpml-4-0-8/#comment-1899585

That is how things are currently set up at the moment, I don't know if they will change in the future, but users have the option to change the flag and use a Taiwan flag or any other custom flag of their choice.

I hope that you will find this information helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

That response is not logical. China DOES NOT use traditional Chinese. Hong Kong doesn't use Traditional Chinese either. Therefore, that statement made in 2018 was wrong right off the bat. It is not about country or not country. That argument is only made by those in China who does not recognize Taiwan as a country.

WPML should leave politics out of its plugin. Do what is right. Taiwan is the only place that uses wholly Traditional Chinese. It is always associated with Traditional Chinese. You guys just need to fix it and do it right.

I understand your point.

This has already been decided by our leadership team, especially for avoiding any politically-related situations, and there is nothing that I can do to change this.

As far as I know, our team changed the flag once to the Taiwan version of the flag and then other people started to complain about that, so our team decided to just switch it back and not touch it anymore.

So that is the situation and probably it won't change too soon.

I appreciate your understanding.

Have a lovely rest of the day!
