This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client needed to switch from Traditional Chinese to Simplified Chinese for their multilingual site and encountered issues with disabled checkboxes for certain post types like 'company' and 'products' after adding a new language. They also faced problems with locked fields in the WPML Translation Editor and were concerned about preserving existing translations in French and German.
Solution:
1. We advised the client to edit the page/post in the default language and activate the WPML Translation Editor by clicking on the "Pencil +" tab in the language side panel.
2. For the ACF fields, we recommended setting the translation preference to 'Same field across languages' to unlock the checkboxes. However, this change might cause the translation complete icon to switch to a needs update icon, which is expected. The client should check the translated content on the front end and if it appears correct, they can leave it as is. If updates are needed post-ACF change, the content should be sent for translation again to align with the default-language content.

Hii i translated site into french ,german and chinese i got traditional chinese but i want simplified chinese now what is the best solution as i need simplified chinese not traditional one is there any way to translate simplified instead of traditional as client need simpliefied one and when i tried to add simplified one by adding add new langauge then some post types like company ,products checkboxes are coming disabled see below attached screenshot howewer i did translation by automatic translation using credits i not getting why it is blocking and how to remove this lock i not want to lose french and german translation as those are correctly translated by automatic system i only want content in simplified chinese too so please help me in urgent as i need to make site live so please answers as soon as possible as i already checked post type is set translatable in wpml > setting i also checked those pages on right side also there is not any option to remove that lock see attached screenshot i cleared wpml caches too from wpml > support >troubleshooting option but nothing helps please reply me as i want simplified not traditional one thanks

Hii team it is a very serious bug please check it out my client is very angry see here "hidden link" all three languages is translated by automatic wpml credits now if i want to create translate in simplified chinese some post types like products , companies ,success stories checkbox disabled coming for testing i created a test page and there also that lock was coming for remove lock i had to delete all my tranlsation in other languages then that checkbox lock open are you serious means we need to delete our french german content which is already translated by your credits system if you have any report to check this you can check how much credits used from thsi account why gonna we delete content which is already correct i only want chinese by automatic please take a look into this serious issue i hope you reply soon by taking responsibility i tried 6 hours continuous to clear this loop hole but not know from where this serious issue happening kindly look at this soon please reply as soon as possible thanks if need any details let me know thanks

Hi,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

Please edit the page/post in the default language. In the language side panel, click on the "Pencil +" tab to activate WPML Translation Editor.

After that, please try to translate the page/post using WPML-> Translation Editor.

Hii Osama Thank for you reply but i think you not understand my situation my client bought 5 lakh something credits you already know how much costly they are but my client wanted all from automatic so they buyed now due to some misunderstanding we selected traditional chinese and we are shocked all 5 lakh credits used in this now we not left credits for simplified language so my request is please can you take a look on this as all credits it have taken for these thre languages and we not need traditional one as client business if for main china which uses simplified chinese so i am asking can we get some credits back thank you so much for your help

Now second concern is client need simplified chinese so we have to translatae this by automatic translation but some of checkbox are coming disabled with warning this page is set to translate manually but it is very disturbing that if this page is translated manually then where is 5 lakh credits gone ?? i mean these translations are done by automatic then why this checkbox lock coming so please take a look that how to remove this lock thank you so much ??

Now last and final i hope you also have some knowledge of technical as i am developer so for your information if we translated de and fr and traditional chinese by autoamtic translation then if we added new language then it should allow us to translate only chinese one as other already translatedt fine what i got checkbox lock is not going until i deleted french and german translation which is already correct don't you think it is very costly and not user friendly if we have to delete already corrected translations i hope you will understand my situation and thank you so much for your help i am develeoper you can suggest any technical way too for remove this lock so we can translate simplified chinese too by automatic i will appreciate you effort if i am able to fix issue thank you so much

Hi,

1) Please go to WPML-> Translation Dashboard-> Tools tab, and check your credits usage.

2) I'm afraid that the used credits can't be refunded, as you used them already to translate content.

3) In order to remove this lock, please apply the steps in my previous reply. (Kindly check the attached screenshot)

Hii thank you for your reply i just checked there i not able to click on that icon but when i change acf field setting from different field across langauge to same field across language then this checkbox locked open but i need to translate acf fields too so is that work fine with this option (same field across language in acf field group setting) ??

and also right now lock is open but right tickbox is not coming in translation dashboard can you please help me what is this my translated content will be safe or how to correct this ??

Hi,

1) Thanks for your reply. Please check this guide to know more about the different translation preferences in ACF.

2) What you see is a needs update icon instead of a translation complete icon due to changing the ACF translation preference, which is an expected behavior.

You can check the translated posts/pages on the front end, and if the translation is okay for you, leave it as is.

If you need to update it after the ACF change, send it to translation to match the default-language content.

Thank You Osama i am able to remove lock no problem if you can't refund credits i buyed new credits and translated simplified and removed traditional completely but i am getting one issue in theme strings i already registered them correctly and translated in fr de now when i try to translate in simplified chinese it is saying in progress but never got translated even my credits i used can you please check i tried to manually translate too but there also coming in progress please help me and reply as soon as possible in this simple issue too again thanks for your help.

i forcefully tried to again translate my credits already gone but i testedt again but it is saying content already translated but string on frontend coming in english default see attached screenshot thanks

i also tried to cancel jobs and check in translation dashboard > jobs in progress but nothing coming here i am not getting what is wrong here string there saying in progress but here not found there are not much strings left but i don't want to delete fr and de one i only want to translate in simplified chinese please check attached screenshot strings registerd fine in theme and fr de coming fine thanks you

Thanks for your update. I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please back up your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Hi,

Please check the following steps:

1- Go to WPML-> String Translation
2- Select the problematic strings
3- Delete them
4- Go to WPML-> Theme and Plugin Localization
5- Scan your theme
6- Go to WPML-> String Translation
7- Translate the strings

Okay thank you i deleted and translated back but can you let me know why this happen as due to this i have to delete french and german translation of string too as i don't think it is good behaviour as if new language added then it should not ask us to delete already translated strings and speacially those string which taking credits and not giving any refund as you already know credits are expensive i hope you understand what i mean thanks
