Background of the issue:
We have a complex shop with many plugins and have implemented numerous optimizations to improve speed on both the frontend and backend. Our shop, Mindfield-Shop.com, is hosted on a dedicated Linux Hetzner server, running Nginx optimized, using WP-Rocket, Perfmatters, Cloudflare, BunnyCDN, and more. We have expert WordPress developers and an experienced server admin. We switched to a more lightweight theme to improve backend speed, but WPML is still slowing down the backend.
Symptoms:
WPML is the plugin that slows down the backend the most, with around 2 seconds of execution time, despite not having any translations and only using WordPress with German formal language in addition to English. And PHP execution is also fast on our server, we use ab Object Cache in additon as well. Many people are working in the backend and every click costs time and WPML stands out with beeing extra slow beside all the other plugins.
Questions:
What can we do to improve WPML's performance in the backend?
Is there any documentation on optimizing WPML for speed in the backend?
