This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is migrating translations from Loco Translate to WPML and encounters issues with some strings not being translated. Manual translation attempts for these strings are unsuccessful.
Solution:
We recommend the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Navigate to WPML-> Support-> Troubleshooting.
2. Scroll down and click the "Show custom MO Files Pre-generation dialog box" button.
3. Regenerate the MO files.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to WPML-> String Translation.
2. Select the problematic string and delete it.
3. Navigate to WPML-> Theme and Plugin Localization and scan the theme/plugin generating the string.
4. Return to String Translation to translate the string.
Additionally, if the strings are JavaScript strings, please refer to the workaround provided on this page: https://wpml.org/errata/learnpress-cant-translating-strings-from-javascript-files/.

Hello!

I want to use WPML to offer a multilanguage website. The first step is to migrate from Loco Translate to WPML. Most of my website was translated by uploading PO files from Loco Translate into WPML by following your instructions.

My problem is that for some reason, some strings were not translated. When I try to translate these strings manually, it does not work. See video below:

So I deactivated WPML until the problem is resolved, as I don't want to expose my clients to a bad translation.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Simon

Hi Simon,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

1) Please try the following steps:

1- Go to WPML-> Support-> Troubleshooting
2- Scroll down and click the "Show custom MO Files Pre-generation dialog box" button
3- Regenerate the MO files

If the above steps didn't help, please try the following steps:

1- Go to WPML-> String Translation
2- Select the problematic string
3- Delete it
4- Go to WPML-> Theme and Plugin Localization
5- Scan the theme/plugin generating this string
6- Go to String Translation to translate it

Kindly let me know if the above steps fixed the issue.

2) Could you please share your Debug information with me?
You can read a detailed explanation about it here. (http://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support)
The debug info will give me much information about how your site is configured.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi Osama,

Thanks for the quick reply!

Both methods did not work for me. I still can't translate these few strings. You will find attached my debug info. Also, I dont know if that can help you but these few strings I can't translate in WPML are being marked as "Fuzzy translation" in Loco Translate.

Hi,

Thanks for your update. That could be the reason. Please complete the translations in Loco or delete them from there and check the issue.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi Osama,

I'm not sure I understand your reply. I want to replace Loco Translate with the WPML plugin because I need a multilangual website. Are you suggesting these strings can't be translated using the WPML plugin?

Hi,

These strings are added to your PO files using Loco, and their translation is not complete.

WPML reads the files from the language folder, so in order to fix the issue, you need to delete the problematic strings from Loco, rescan the plugin, and translate the strings.

Or complete the translation, then edit it using String Translation.

If the above approach didn't fix the issue, I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate the Plugins and the Theme and change configurations on the site. This is also a reason the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi,

Thanks for your patience. Our 2nd tier support team has found that the problematic strings are JS strings.

Please check this page and apply the workaround mentioned there. (https://wpml.org/errata/learnpress-cant-translating-strings-from-javascript-files/)

Best regards,
Osama

Thanks Osama. In the procedure, it's being said:
"Use a tool like Loco Translate to search for and translate the string"

When the strings are being translated with Loco Translate, what do I do next to use WPML? I think WPML can't be used with Loco Translate at the same time. So is there something I don't understand here?

Hi,

You can use Loco and WPML together, but please use Loco only on the JS strings and use String Translation on standard PHP strings.

Best regards,
Osama

Thanks Osama, it now work with Loco Translate + WPML. Does Loco Translate interfere with WPML? I ask to know if I need to delete all translated strings in Loco Translate that are also being translated with WPML.

Thanks!

Simon

Hi Simon,

It shouldn't interfere with WPML string translation. If you notice any issues with specific strings, please let us know so we can check the issue.

Best regards,
Osama
