This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing an issue where images on translated pages disappear after making changes to the default language pages. Despite previous attempts to resolve this by updating page versions and adjusting WPML media settings, the problem persists.
Solution:
1. Navigate to WPML → Settings → Media Translation.
2. Temporarily disable the option 'Automatically detect best options for translating image texts'.
3. Select 'Setup manually'.
4. Enable 'Duplicate image texts (alt, caption, title) for all featured images to all languages' for Existing Content.
5. Click 'Start the Process'.
6. Re-enable 'Automatically detect best options for translating image texts'.
7. Ensure your hosting environment is using a recent version of PHP, as older versions might contribute to this issue.
8. After transferring to a new host or updating PHP, resynchronize WPML by clicking the update button in your WordPress dashboard.

If this solution does not resolve the issue or seems outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please open a new support ticket.

I have opened several support tickets over the last few months regarding the fact that my images on the translated pages are simply not being displayed by the system. The images are present for a period of time and then disappear. I have the impression that this happens as soon as we modify the versions of the pages that are in the default language of the site, which is EN.

Our website absolutely must be online within two weeks. It is therefore essential to find a permanent solution to this image bug. It is not possible to publish a site with a bug like this; it is unprofessional.

During my previous exchanges with your support team, we tried the following solutions:

The first solution was to update the each pages by hand for my entire website, which is a very time-consuming task
But this has not solved the problem and I have reach again your support 04.12.2025.

The steps that were recommended by your support and done on the 04.12.2025:
Went to WPML → Settings → Media Translation.
Temporarily disabled “Automatically detect best options for translating image texts.”
Clicked on “Setup manually.”
Enabled “Duplicate image texts (alt, caption, title) for all featured images to all languages” for Existing Content.
Clicked “Start the Process.”
Re-enabled “Automatically detect best options for translating image texts.”

This solved the problem, and everything was working correctly for a moment. However the images have disappeared again. After I have worked on some pages, in English (default languge) to change some texte and I have actualized the translations and made a backup of the website. The pictures where present and disappeared the morning after.

On the 9.12.2025 I have reach again to the support team and I have talk with Noman.
He checked the plugin configuration and took the necessary steps (mentioned above) to make the images reappear. This works mainly for blog posts and portfolio articles, but not for other pages, where you have to go back and update the translation status manually.

He mentioned that this bug might be related to the old version of PHP because the site was hosted by our partner (on teawebsoftware.it/studer) while we waited for the transfer to our side. I therefore took the necessary steps to repatriate and transfer the site to a recent version of PHP on our side, hoping that the bug would no longer be an issue. The transfer, which took place on Tuesday this week, went very well, and the images were all there. Yesterday (Wednesday), I did what was necessary to resynchronise WPML, as we had transferred the site to our host (you know, with the update button that appears at the top when you log into your WordPress dashboard). The images were still there, as far as I can remember, until I made some changes to one of the default languages pages on the site, and then they disappeared again on the whole translated pages of the website.

In the plugin configuration, I had selected the option to use different images for each language. For the moment, this is not the case, but it will undoubtedly be useful in the future. If I remember correctly, Noman seemed to think that the problem might be related to this option if not related to the PHP version.

The bug is therefore not related to the PHP version and, as agreed with Noman, I am getting back to you because a definitive solution to this problem is absolutely necessary, as the site must be online in about two weeks. We urgently need to find a working solution as promptly as possible.

Dear Kor,

We are now working on correcting the translations in spanish. For the moment the images are still there. I will let you know in the following days. Maybe the option that has been deactivated was really the problem.

Best regards,

Dear Kor,

We made the changes in Spanish and were checking each page in the four languages of the site to ensure that the images were still there.

During the verification, I noticed that some links still pointed to the old URL of the site. For example, on the page hidden link, if you click on next1, next3, next3-rack at the top of the page, you will be taken to the URL teawebsoftware.it/studer. I had carried out the migration process for WPML. I also noticed that this does not happen everywhere. How can we update the links to ensure that all links point to the correct domain, namely webdev.studer-innotec.com? So we can still verify each links and also the pictures in the same time.

Best regards

Dear Kor,

With all the changes we have made since early February, the images are now always visible, which is superb.

I think we can close this ticket by saying that unchecking the option Automatically detect best options for translating image texts (alt, caption, title) solved the problem.

Thanks for your help.
