This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
You are using the 'Translate Independently' option for pages on your WordPress site and managing components with ACF Flexible Content. After exporting and importing XLIFF files for translation, you notice that updates to the layout in the English version cause unintended changes and removal of content in the French version, despite the pages being set to 'Translate Independently'.
Solution:
We have identified that this issue affects both the standard WordPress editor and WPML translation editors. Currently, there is no direct workaround when using the site editor. However, we recommend adjusting the field group translation settings for fields like repeaters. You should set these fields to 'Copy Once' or 'Don't Translate'. When you make changes in one language, you will need to manually apply the same edits to the corresponding posts in other language versions.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, please check the related known issues and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If necessary, we highly recommend opening a new support ticket for further assistance. You can do so at the WPML support forum.
