This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is developing a site with Irish as the main language and English as the secondary language. After translating the month names to Irish using WPML, the months still appear in English on the Irish version of the site.
Solution:
The issue was identified with the "ga_IE" locale, which is not supported on translate.wordpress.org, and should be set to "ga" (Irish Gaelic) instead. There is no .mo file available in wp-content/languages/ for the current locale, and the translation progress for this locale is below the required threshold, preventing automatic downloads. We recommended using the LocoTranslate plugin to translate the default strings. The client should specify the language as a custom option within LocoTranslate and proceed with translating the months accordingly. This solution was confirmed to work as the client successfully translated the default months using LocoTranslate.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for the delays. We have a workaround provided by our 2nd Tier Support below and could you please try the suggested and see if it helps?

The issue lies with the "ga_IE" locale, which is not supported on translate.wordpress.org. It should be simply "ga" (Irish Gaelic) instead, as shown here: hidden link. Therefore, there is no .mo file available in wp-content/languages/ for our current locale.

Additionally, the translation progress for this locale is at 28%, below the required threshold of 85% set by Glotpress rules, which prevents automatic downloads.

As a workaround, you can use the LocoTranslate plugin to translate default strings. Specify the language as a custom option within LocoTranslate and proceed with translating the months accordingly.

Aoife

Ok thanks so much Kor. That's working for me now.

I think my issue was that I was translating in the "Irish ga" language and not the "ga_IE" language that my website is set in.

That's great.

Thanks again,
