This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client wants to set the default language on their page based on the site visitor's location and is concerned about how it might affect SEO. Additionally, the client is experiencing issues with buttons not maintaining the chosen language, and is inquiring about better translation options than the default translator.
Solution:
For setting the default language based on visitor location, we currently offer an automatic browser language redirect feature. This detects the visitor's browser language and redirects them to the corresponding language version of your site if available. However, this is based on browser language, not geolocation. To implement geolocation:
1. Consider using plugins from our compatible plugins list that support geotargeting.
2. If you need custom coding, you may contact one of our certified partners.
3. You can also suggest this feature for future versions of WPML at this link.

Regarding SEO, using geolocation should not affect your search engine rankings; it only determines which version of your website the visitor sees.

For the button language issue and seeking better translation options, we have created separate support tickets:

1. Is it possible to set default language on page based on site visitor location? For example if visitor in Estonia, my automatic language setting is Estonian. How does it affect my SEO?
2. How do I get my buttons to work with chosen language? At the moment when I choose russian for example, page goes russian. As soon as I press something, goes back to English which is my main language.
3. Is any other translator better than the default translator? Automatic translations are absolutely terrible. Everything has to be overdone manually. I've done about 4 pages now in one language and there's a lot more to do. And there's 4 other languages..

Hello and welcome to the WPML support 🙂

Since we can only look at one ticket at a time (due to our policy and for organization reasons), I've split your last three questions into new tickets:

2. https://wpml.org/forums/topic/split-translate-buttons/
3. https://wpml.org/forums/topic/split-translation-alternatives/
4. https://wpml.org/forums/topic/split-install-plugins/

Regarding the geolocation, WPML currently offers only the option to do an automatic browser language redirect which essentially detects the visitor's browser language and then if that language exists in your site it redirects them to it. The downfall with this is that it's based on the visitor's browser language rather than their location.

At the moment Geolocation is only possible with custom coding which does fall beyond the scope of our support but perhaps I can point you in the right direction:

#1 It's possible to use plugins to achieve it. Please check our compatible plugins list in this category: https://wpml.org/plugin-functionality/geotargeting/

#2 You can also consider contacting one of our certified partners from this link: https://wpml.org/contractors/

Alternatively, please feel free to request this feature at the link: https://wpml.org/suggest-a-new-feature-for-wpml/. We will analyze it and upon further check, it can be available in the future versions of WPML.

Please let me know if this explanation is clear to you and solves the question. Looking forward to your reply.

It shouldn't affect your SEO, it will only affect which version of your website the client will see, not the Google results.
