[Resolved] Trouble setting up Danish as default langauge
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is attempting to set Danish as the default language on their site and use the automatic translation feature. However, they are encountering issues with translating Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish using AI translation. Solution: 1. Not all languages are currently supported by WPML's AI translation as each language undergoes a quality control process. For more details on the languages supported and the progress of new languages, visit WPML AI Translation Engine Announcement. 2. As an alternative, the client can use other translation engines such as DeepL, Microsoft Azure, and Google Translate. For a list of supported languages by these services, please visit Alternative Translation Engines and Supported Languages.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend opening a new support ticket. Additionally, please check related known issues at WPML Known Issues, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
We are trying to set up Danish as the default language on our site under development. All content is in Danish. We have purchased a lot of credits for AI translation.
Symptoms:
We are having trouble using the automatic translation feature. It seems that Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish cannot be used with AI translation. We also tried setting up a clean WooCommerce installation using Hello Elementor without any result.
Questions:
Do you have a workaround for using automatic translation with Danish as the default language?
Why can't Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish be used with AI translation?

You can use different translation engines—so it’s not entirely clear what the issue is. You still have available credits and can, for example, use DeepL to translate content from Danish into your target languages.
There’s no need to change anything. You can simply use your existing credits to translate from Danish into other languages using a different engine, such as DeepL, Microsoft or Google.
The only current limitation is that the WPML AI engine cannot be used as the selected translation engine for this language pairs. Credits cannot be refunded, but you're welcome to book a call with our accounting team at https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds/ if you have further questions.
OK, I understand that what you are promoting is not what you get in tterms of AI - There is no information that AI only works with limited languages...
We specific choose your service due to AI translation, which is much better than you other suggestion. It is known in the market....
I will make a review to warn other people in regards of AI with WPML.

Hi,
I think there might be a little mix-up. You can definitely use AI for translations. What’s currently not working is our new translation engine – WPML AI for your specific language pairs – which actually performs even better than DeepL. It uses ChatGPT along with our own pre- and post-processing to get even better results and a deeper understanding of the content you want to translate.
That said, this doesn’t stop you from using other AI translation engines or from using your existing credits.
We’re actively adding more languages to WPML AI, but not all of them are available yet. For now, the languages that are supported still require English as the source language – and that’s exactly what we shared in our announcement post.
Automatic translation has been available for years in WPML through various engines. You can find more details here: https://wpml.org/features/
WPML’s automatic translations are powered by WPML AI, Google, DeepL, and Microsoft.
