Hello There!
Thanks for contacting WPML Support.

I understand your requirements. Please follow the steps below to display the default products in other languages.

- Make sure that the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin is installed and activated on your site.
- Now, go to "WPML > Settings" and scroll to the "Post Type Translation" section.
- Locate the 'Product' post type and set the translation preference for the post type to "Translatable - use translation if available or fallback to default language" and save the changes.

This will allow the default products to display in other languages until the translations are completed.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance or clarification on any specific point. I'll be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

That is what I have done. In addition, the products should not be translated, but should fall back on one language in the long term.

I have noticed that the language switch only shows the source language, but not others, even though they are set as visible.

Hello There!
Thank you for the update!

If the Fallback option is selected, the default product will appear in other languages, and the language switcher will display all available languages on your site.

After adjusting the Translation settings, have you checked by clearing the caches from your site and browser?

If the issue persists even after that, Could you please share the WPML Debug Information of your site so that I can get a better overview of your site and system?

- Here's how you can get the Debug Info: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support/

Copy the Info and paste it into the Debug information box located just below the reply box. I'll check and assist you further in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hi There,
Thank you for sharing the WPML Debug info!

From the WPML Debug Info, I noticed that the WPML plugin and its add-ons are not updated to the latest version. Additionally, the translation preference for the Product post type is set to "Translatable - Only show the translated items." As a result, default products aren’t appearing in other languages since they haven’t been translated.

Please begin by updating the WPML, String Translation, and WooCommerce Multilingual plugins to their latest versions (WPML -> 4.6.13, String Translation -> 3.2.14, WooCommerce Multilingual -> 5.3.8). After updating, follow the recommendations provided in my first message(https://wpml.org/forums/topic/use-german-products-on-different-language-sites-e-g-english/#post-16340326). This should allow the default products to display in other languages and ensure the language switcher shows all languages until the products are translated.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes. I'll be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello There,
I hope you're doing well. Sorry for the delay in responding due to the weekend.

The issue you encountered typically occurs when the WPML site key is incorrect. Based on the information in our system, I noticed you've registered a site without 'www,' but in the WPML Debug Info you shared, the site URL includes 'www.' This mismatch may be causing the license server not to recognize your site, preventing the plugin from updating.

If you prefer to use 'www' with your domain, you'll need to register a license specifically for the 'www' version and use that key to register your site. Alternatively, you can remove 'www' from the Site and WordPress URLs under Settings > General. Then, go to "WPML > Support > Troubleshooting" and click on the "Refresh license data" button at the bottom.

Once the license data is refreshed, you can attempt to update the plugin again.

Please try and let me know how it goes. I'll be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Thanks, it worked.
There is one more thing - in the sitemap (regardless of how it is created), only German is listed in the default wp sitemap. If I use e.g. The SEO Framework, Yoast or Jetpack to create it, only English is listed. What could be the reason for this?

Hi!
Thank you for the update.

Glad to hear that the suggestion helped.

Regarding the sitemap issue, please note that the sitemap will only display posts and pages available in each language. If you have posts in both German and English, they should appear in the sitemap. Since WPML SEO is installed on your site, please regenerate the sitemap by disabling and then re-enabling the sitemap option, and check the sitemap again.

Please note that in WPML > Settings > Post Type Translation, if any post type translation setting is set to "not translatable" or "Translatable - use translation if available or fallback to default language," the contents of that post type will not appear in the sitemap for other languages.

Please try and let me know how it goes. I'll be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello There!
Thank you for the update.

I’m sorry to hear that the previous response wasn’t helpful. I’ll do my best to address your concern. Could you please provide the sitemap URL so I can check the available content?

If there are any issues, a closer inspection will be required to understand the root cause of the issue.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

IMPORTANT
-Please backup site files and database before providing us access.
-If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Looking forward to your response.

Hi There!
Thank you for the update.

Could you please check if the pages and products on your site have been translated into other languages? If they haven’t, it’s expected that the translated versions won’t appear in the sitemap, even if you’ve set the translation preference for the post type to display the default version in other languages in WPML settings. The sitemap will only include the pages and posts that are currently available on the site.

If they are translated and if you still don't see them in the sitemap, a closer inspection will be required to understand the root cause. Please share the access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. I have enabled a private box for you so that you can securely share access to your site. The private box looks like this:

Looking forward to your response.

Prosenjit
