Problem:
You are experiencing issues where users with custom roles suddenly cannot edit or create product translations in your e-shop catalogue. This problem occurs randomly for some products.
Solution:
Switching to a standard role such as Shop Manager resolves the issue.

Background of the issue:
We have our own roles on the site for employees who manage the e-shop catalogue. Users are set as Translators and are also assigned the permission "wpml_manage_translation_management". We are trying to enable these users to edit/create product translations.

Symptoms:
Users with custom roles can't translate products: You can only edit translations assigned to you. The issue occurs randomly for some products.

Questions:
Why have users with custom roles suddenly lost the ability to edit/create product translations?
Why does the issue occur randomly for some products and not others?

Please try switching one of the custom role users to a standard role and let's see if the permissions show up as expected, and if they can translate as expected. If not, the next steps will be to test in minimal settings, which means only WPML active with a default theme and we can check the permissions settings. This is best tested in a staging website. Do you have a staging site where we can test this? If not, let me know and I can set one up where we can migrate your site to.

I added an additional role (Shop manager) to the users in addition to the custom role and the problem was solved. It's not a solution to the cause, but for our purposes it's currently sufficient and we can close the ticket.
