Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate pages and posts automatically without issues. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link
Symptoms:
The URL should have respected the glossary term "Lelylijn". Instead, it shows "lilyline". It also adds/moves the glossary term "Lelylijn" to the front of the text, twice, because Lelylijn is mentioned twice in the original Dutch article.
Questions:
Why is the glossary term 'Lelylijn' not respected in the URL?
Why is the term 'Lelylijn' added/moved to the front of the text twice?

I'm trying to troubleshoot the staging site, but I"m not able to access the lower level page you are asking about. For example, when I try to go to:
hidden link
it takes me to:
hidden link
The language switcher also doesn't work on the staging homepage, it takes me back to the live site. Are you able to view other pages in the staging site?
I see that you turned off our custom theme. Which is fine per se, but things like "news" are custom post types connected to our theme. Also, and I don't know if you changed this or something else happenend, but the permalinks were configured to "plain", I changed this back to "day and name". The redirecting to the live site is now not happening anymore, and the language switcher works as well. But the news items are still not available due to the disabling of our theme.
But this is not a problem. The homepage has also the glossary term issue. When you go to hidden link the second paragraph starts with "Lelylijn Lelylijn".
Aside from the frontend issues, did you at least confirm the problem in the admin panel, when going to the translate manager?
With minimal settings, I followed these steps and I am no longer seeing the double "Lelylijn Lelylijn" in German.
1. Disable WPML and check the page to confirm it does not show.
2. Enable WPML again.
3. Edit the homepage in the original language. (I simply added a space at the end of the second paragraph).
4. Update German translation. Remove the double ""Lelylijn Lelylijn" and save the translation and click complete translation.
After this, I checked and it is gone. I also then updated the original language homepage again, and the double "Lelylijn Lelylijn" did not return. hidden link
