Background of the issue:
I am developing a site and have created over 40 product categories in the default language, which I then translated into another language. I added thumbnails to all categories in the default language, but they are not being applied to the translations. I followed the steps in this documentation: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/produc-category-thumbnail-do-not-sync/.

Symptoms:
After attempting to sync thumbnails, all added thumbnails for the default language disappeared instead of syncing to the translations.

Questions:
What am I doing wrong in the process of syncing product category thumbnails to other languages?

Hello,

Could you please clarify how you "syncing product category thumbnails"? Do you mean the option WPML > Media Translation > Start?

Take note, that translating the taxonomies at WPML > Taxonomy Translation might not be sufficient in this case.

You might go for example to Posts > Categories, edit each category, and use the translation option in the bottom section to edit the category in a second language.

At this step, you might need to add the image manually to each category in each language.
