Background of the issue:
I am using WPML's advanced editor on my site. I want to translate content without the original language content being automatically copied.

Symptoms:
When I click on the + icon for each sentence in the advanced editor, it automatically copies the original content, which I then have to manually delete before writing the translation.

Questions:
How can I prevent WPML from automatically copying the original content when using the advanced editor?

Hi,

Have you added the specific words to the glossary, as described here?
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/how-to-create-and-manage-glossary-entries/

If not, what you’re seeing might just be coming from the translation memory instead:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/how-wpml-keeps-track-of-your-translations/

Please let me know.

Best regards,
Marcel

Hello,

None of the options you mentioned applies in this case. I did not add words to the glossary and the content is not coming from the translation memory.

I used WPML on other websites, and normally when I click on the + button on the right side of the advanced translator, it would let me add my content without pre-filling it with the original content in the original language. But on this website the behaviour is unexpected: when I click on the + button, it automatically copies the original content from the original language, and that field is not marked in orange (like it should to indicate a missing translation).

Furthermore, after I edit the page in the original language (English), I go to "Pages" and see the sync wheel next to that page (which is exactly what I expect) but when I click on that sync wheel and the advanced editor opens, it does NOT highlight in orange the missing content. Instead, the bar remains at 100%, and the new content in the second language is automatically filled with the content in the original language, which makes it really difficult to know what is really missing translation, since it's not highlighted or discounted from the progress bar (instead, it's simply automatically filling in the text using the original text in the original language)

Hi,

thanks for the info. Can I use the start page for testing?

I would eventually also need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site
– preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible –
in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed

Your next answer will be private which means only you and I have access to it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I would additionally need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme, and to change configurations on the site. This is also a reason the backup is really important.

✙ Please add the Links to the […] Edit Screen, the Page/Post where you insert the […] and the corresponding Front End Page/Screen

Best Regards,
Marcel
