Background of the issue:
I have added the 'Footnotes Made Easy' plugin as I want to add footnotes in my content. I can also use the same footnote another time if I add the same footnote again without a single minor change. The site is under development.

Symptoms:
Whenever I am translating that content, WPML is adding unwanted things for the same string translation, e.g., sometimes adding extra spaces, sometimes converting into HTML entities. Due to this, the plugin is not able to consider it as the same string, resulting in different numbers of footnotes being displayed for the original and translated content.

Questions:
How can I prevent WPML from adding unwanted changes to the same string translation?
Is there a way to ensure that the 'Footnotes Made Easy' plugin recognizes the same footnote in both original and translated content?

Please reproduce the issue here:

Install whatever is necessary and create one simple footnote and translate in the same way your translating it in your site.

And then send me a screenshot to the issue and url.

I have tried to add similar content by creating one page.

But due to not having WPML credits in the URL you have provided, I am not able to translate.

I copy pasted the translation in translation editor, but footnotes look the same to me?

That's a wrong way to replicate. You should do translation with credits only where automatic translation occur. WPML returns different translation at that time.

Apologies for the delay, but I encountered some issues registering ATE credits on the sandbox. As a result, I’ve set up a new site here:

The username is hello@wpml.org and the password is S522smJ4Bc.

This page: hidden link contains the same content, and I’ve automatically translated it.

Could you please add footnotes and check if the issue appears here?
