This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
If you're experiencing issues with the WPML translation editor not recognizing line breaks in posts created through the Classic Editor, where instead of seeing different translation zones for each paragraph, you see one big paragraph, we can help.
Solution:
We are currently working on a permanent fix for this issue in future releases. In the meantime, to address this for previously created content, you need to delete the existing translation and recreate it. Here’s how you can do it:
1. Ensure you have a full website backup.
2. Navigate to your Pages or Posts tab.
3. Change the language in the topbar by clicking on the flag and selecting a secondary language.
4. Find the translation, send it to the trash, and then permanently delete it from the trash can.
By following these steps, when you create a new translation, it should adhere to the new settings and resolve the issue.
If this solution does not resolve the issue, please visit this documentation.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate a post created through the classic editor (not Gutenberg). I create a post, use the WPML editor to translate it (old and new, both have the problem).

Symptoms:
Instead of seeing different translation zones for each paragraph, I see one big paragraph. The classic editor does not show tags like

and
but it has never done this and WPML has always worked fine before. It recognized Enters as line breaks. It no longer seems to do this.

Questions:
Why does the WPML translation editor not recognize line breaks in posts created through the Classic Editor?
How can I fix the issue of WPML not recognizing line breaks as it did before?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly, as we have some similar issue.

Please click on the cog icon while you are inside the WPML ATE editor and uncheck/disable option Bigger segments, then re-translate the page and check if ti works fine.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Drazen

This is half a solution. When I open the translation editor for the first time, to click on the cog wheel the paragraph are already messed up. So yes, when I change the setting, future translations will be OK, but the current post is still messed up when I retranslate it. I need to cancel the job and reassign it, to have correct paragraphs.

Hey there,

My name is Lucas and I'll be your supporter for this ticket.

To give you some context, we are working internally to solve this issue permanently in future releases. I sincerely appreciate your patience on this one.

The solution my colleague Dražen gave is indeed a workaround for the moment. To fix that for previously created content, it's necessary to delete the translation and recreate them. Most of the content that was already translated is saved on Translation Memory, so it won't be necessary to retranslate everything from scratch.

To delete a translation, please make sure to have a full website backup and follow these steps:

1. Go to your Pages or Posts tab;
2. Change the language in the topbar by clicking on the flag and selecting a secondary language;
3. Find the translation and send it to the trash;
4. Finally, delete the translation from the trash can. Remove it completely.

By doing that, when creating a new translation, you'll be able to use the new settings, thus solving the problem.

Again, I really appreciate your cooperation. We understand this solution is not optimal as of right now.

If that still doesn't solve it, please check this link:
