Problem:
The client installed the WPML plugin and a language switcher on their multi-language WordPress site. However, the site did not switch languages correctly, staying in English despite selecting other languages. The issue was exacerbated by the LitExtension SEO Plugin, which was conflicting with WPML by modifying URLs.
Solution:
We recommended the following steps:
1. Ensure that the shop page and products are translated and properly assigned per language. This can be checked under Pages → All Pages and Products → All.
2. Verify that WooCommerce Multilingual is in use and configured correctly by following our documentation at https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/.
3. Check the configuration of the language switcher in WPML → Languages.
4. Disable the LitExtension SEO Plugin, as it interferes with URL structures essential for WPML's language switching.
5. For untranslated content, use WPML’s Translation Dashboard to send items for translation or manually add translations.
6. Translate widgets and strings specific to the theme using WPML’s String Translation feature. 7. If changing URL structures for languages, modify them via WPML → Languages → Edit Languages or create a custom language. Note that this can impact SEO and existing links.
