WPML is duplicating many product images across languages. I only need two languages, Swedish and English, so I want to avoid unnecessary image duplication. I would prefer to use the same product image for both languages without WPML creating extra copies .

I already followed the process before, and now the images in the second language do not appear, but all images still remain on the website in the English version. This issue also happens on different websites.

This ticket has been inactive for quite a while. I didn't get a reply from you. So, I've transformed this chat into a support ticket because you may still need our help. If you do, please reply to this ticket.

Please explain the issue with image duplication you are experiencing.
It would be great if you could attach some screenshots that show the problem.

Swedish variants are showing up as separate products in search results.
Example: the same product appears twice (same price/images) because the SV version is indexed as its own product instead of being tied to the main one.
We need to prevent language variants from being treated as separate products in search and ensure only one product entry appears.

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying that it is an issue with search results.

I can see that products are showing twice when using the 'Search for products' field. I'm searching in the English version of your site because I can't get the Swedish version. However, it is not showing the language variants you mentioned. It seems that you have the same product twice in English. For example, this product:

hidden link
hidden link

Please notice that the second link ends with 2. That means WordPress adds 2 to the second product with the same slug. Please see the attached screenshot. This can result from double-importing products into your site.
Have you imported the products into your site?

I'm also confused about why Swedish is not showing on your site. According to the debug information you attached to this ticket, I can see that Swedish is the site's default language. However, when I go to hidden link, I get redirected to the English homepage: hidden link. Please see the attached screenshot.
Could you please explain why Swedish is missing from your site?

Regards,
Itamar.

We deactivated all plugins to investigate the source of the performance issues
After deactivating WPML specifically, the website speed returned to normal
However, upon deactivating WPML, our Swedish language content is now missing

Hi,

Please understand that we try to focus on one issue per ticket in our technical support forum. Otherwise, tickets can get cluttered and confusing for both users and supporters. I mention this because you started this ticket describing a problem with duplicated images. Then you said there is a problem when searching for products. And now you mention a performance problem as well.
Can you please tell me which problem is most urgent and for which you need our help?
Also, please let me know the current state of WPML on your site.
Is WPML currently active or inactive on your site?

Thanks,
Itamar.

Yes, I understand you. The issues are the same. When we updated to the last version, the website experienced many 503 errors and became extremely slow. We disabled WPML and the website worked normally again.
We systematically checked which plugin was causing the issues and confirmed it was WPML. When we reactivated it yesterday, we discovered problems with the Swedish language:
• Products are displaying in English instead of Swedish
• We only uploaded 1 picture and 1 description per product (not duplicated for both languages as expected)
• The plugin is currently active
The main problems are:
1. Severe performance issues (503 errors and slowness) when WPML is active
2. Swedish language content not displaying correctly after reactivation

Hi, and thanks for sharing more details about your case.

I have a few more questions, please.

1. Severe performance issues (503 errors and slowness) when WPML is active
You wrote: "When we updated to the last version, the website experienced many 503 errors and became extremely slow."

Was it an update of WPML to its latest version 4.8.6?
Or do you mean a WordPress update?

You wrote: "We systematically checked which plugin was causing the issues and confirmed it was WPML."

This check can be done in various ways. I need to know if you have tried it this way, which is the way we recommend.

We suspect a collision with the theme or another plugin might cause this problem. If possible, get your site into a minimum environment, switching to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty-Four and activating only WPML.

First, check whether the problem persists when only the theme is switched to TwentyTwenty-Four (for example). If it persists, deactivate all plugins except WPML and its add-ons and WooCommerce without any extensions. Then, please check if the problem persists. If it does not continue, start by activating the plugins individually and checking when the issue comes back, then report to me which plugin was the culprit.

**** Important! Please make a full site backup (files and DB) before you proceed with those steps****

*** If your site is live, you might want to try those procedures in a staging environment or a snapshot of your site on your local server or another server. ***

If that is not how you tried it, please try it this way.

2. Swedish language content not displaying correctly after reactivation
You wrote: "We disabled WPML and the website worked normally again."
and
"When we reactivated it yesterday, we discovered problems with the Swedish language:
• Products are displaying in English instead of Swedish
• We only uploaded 1 picture and 1 description per product (not duplicated for both languages as expected)"

According to your description of the problem, it sounds like WPML has been reset, which will cause all pages, posts, and products to lose their language association.

Did you only deactivate WPML in the plugins section, or did you reset WPML in WPML -> Support -> Troubleshooting?

After importing the products into your site, how did you translate them from Swedish into English?

Regards,
Itamar.
