[Resolved] WP Options still large after updating to 4.9

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing an issue where the WPML options, specifically 

icl_sitepress_settings

, are still very large (approximately 0.65 MB) even after updating to WPML version 4.9. Despite trying various methods such as clearing the WPML cache, removing ghost entries, and optimizing strings, the size issue persists.
Solution:
We are aware of the issue with the large size of 

icl_sitepress_settings

and have plans to address this by moving the custom fields out of 

icl_sitepress_settings

into a separate option and/or removing autoloading. However, we currently do not have a specific timeline for when these changes will be implemented as it is part of our internal backlog.

WPML Options are still very large after updating to 4.9
Examples are:
icl_sitepress_settings 649168 (bytes)
WPML(TM) 81791
otgs-installer-log 9867
wpml_shortcode_list 7599

icl_sitepress_settings alone is taking up almost 0.65 MB!

I saw it mentioned elsewhere on this forum that updating to 4.9 should resolve this issue, but this does not seem to be the case. I've also tried:
- Clear the cache in WPML
- Remove ghost entries
- Fix element_type collation
- Set language information
- Fix post type assignment
- Clean up strings and optimize

Are there any methods to fix this issue? With WPML taking up 0.71–0.72 MB of space, setting other options to autoload will have negligible effect and not resolve the core issue of icl_sitepress_settings being extremely large. Is there a new setting in 4.9 that I may have missed?

I have also tried running the optimize database tables and the suggest fix from your AI agent.

We currently have an internal backlog ticket to move the custom fields out of icl_sitepress_settings into a separate option and/or remove autoloading.

At the moment, I’m unable to provide an estimated timeline for this change, but it is on our roadmap.
