We are experience a quite extreme slowdown on a semi-large site using WPML.
Investigating the database, we are seeing a quite large amount of values in the WPML tables:
- icl_translate = 25.6 million records, 4.2GB
- icl_translate_job = 4.2 million records, 720MB

We are importing products semi-regularly from a CRM application using WP All Import. I think WPML is automatically translating these and is encountering some kind of loop or issue, causing an extreme number of jobs/translations and slowing down the site. Or at least, the admin interface.

I'm following your KB article at https://wpml.org/errata/reducing-size-of-icl_translate_job-icl_translate-and-other-wpml-tables/.
This plug-in shows some job id's, but ultimately doesn't clean anything. Aside from the fact that it would take a LOT of clicks to clean the table.

Hello Jan,

My name is Eduard and I will help you with problem.
Before starting checking the issue I have a question, what option do we have to proceed?
1) Can we get access to some staging site where we can check out for the problem? As an alternative you can create a Duplicator package, so we can replicate for the issue locally.
2) If you have only production site available, we have some separate debugging plugin available, which we can setup and wait for some time to collect some metrics and investigate later how the data grows in the database and what are the sources of the growth.

Please let me know which option you would prefer follow.

Thanks and best wishes,
Eduard

Hello Eduard,

Based on my expectations that the Duplicator package of the website will exceed 30GB in size, I would prefer to proceed with option 2.

Please let me know the next steps.

Kind regards,
Jan

Hello Jan,

Sure let's process with option 2. I can process installing the plugin and we will keep it activated for some days. It collects some metrics related to WPML work and changes made to the database.

Would you mind sharing access to your site so I can install the plugin and monitor it for some time? I've enabled the private box for you, so you can securely share the login details there.

Just so you know, all access information is completely secure – only our support team can see it, and once we've got everything sorted out and the issue resolved, you're free to remove that access anytime.

Let me know if this approach will work for you.

Best regards,
Eduard
