Background of the issue:
I am trying to set the canonical URL for translated products to their corresponding translated category pages to avoid keyword duplication and improve search engine rankings. I have products like Ammonia 5%, Ammonia 15%, and Ammonia 25% grouped under a category named 'Ammonia'. This setup works on the Dutch site, but not on the English or German translations.

Symptoms:
The canonical URLs for translated products in English and German still reference the Dutch category page instead of their respective translated category pages.

Questions:
How can I configure WPML to ensure that the canonical URLs for translated products point to their respective translated category pages?
Is there a specific setting in WPML or Yoast SEO that needs to be adjusted to fix the canonical URL issue for translated products?

This should happen without the need of any further settings.

Can you provide me a link where I can see this issue, along with correct and wrong results?

Have you tried disabling all non-WPML plugins, switching to one of the default themes, and checking whether the issue still persists or not?

Please remember to create a backup of your site (both files and the database) before making any updates or changes. This is always a good practice.

You can visit the dutch and english translation of the following product:

The english site is now referring the the product instead of the category:

A better example is ammonia:

Dutch version: hidden link
English version: hidden link

Check the canonical url on the english verison redirecting to the dutch version of the category page.
