This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is seeing a notification about new translatable content but is unsure if they need to update the MO files regularly since they do not receive notifications to do so.
Solution:
We explained that the notification indicates the availability of new translatable content. It is not mandatory to update these MO files, especially if the strings are already translated as desired. We recommended that in the future, if the client cannot find a specific string, they should consider scanning the plugins and/or theme to find it. However, this is not necessary at the current moment.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If further assistance is needed, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Hi Lucas, I don't think it's caching, I had issues with the translation in all sorts of ways prior to the latest update: showing the dots to the translation - which now shows as a yellow line (this was so a couple of updates earlier). Also the screen was jumping around (I have a screencast of this if you want to see it) so something has been awry for a while. I use Firefox if that is of any relevance. All of this seems to have resolved with this latest update thank goodness.

I am still having issues with global element updates (background colours not being imported being a major one). There is a setting in the fields for: 'post types translation' > global styles' which is currently set to translatable. Should this be set to untranslatable, which would bring in the latest changes I make to the global styles for Avada on the backend?

Finally, I also have had notification for updates to strings being needed - do I need to just do this every now and then to update... would this have an influence?

Many thanks for your help.
Kind regards
H

Hey there,

Regarding the notification about the strings.

Where exactly is it showing? Please send me a screenshot of it.

Hi Lucas,
I can't find exactly where it was but I am seeing this notification come up, but only when I go looking for it. Should I update these MO files and given I don't get any notification that they need doing, should I seek them out regularly?

Kind regards
H

Oh, I see it now, thank you.

This message simply indicates that there's new translatable content available. It's not mandatory to follow these steps, specially if the strings are already translated as you wish.

In the future, if you search and can't find a specific string, it would be a good idea to scan the plugins and/or theme, but it's not the case as of right now.

Let me know if that answers your question.

Sorry I don't really understand. Can you point me in the right direction to find out more about how often I should check/update these (I did do a search in your knowledgebase but couldn't find anything relevant.

I am wondering can this have anything to do with the global settings not updating as mentioned in the other ticket on Global settings.

Kind regards
Holly

Hey Holly,

No, it has nothing to do with the global settings issue. The message indicates that there's new translatable content available (perhaps after a plugin or theme update, or a new installation).

You should only do that, if you search for a string and can't find it — otherwise it's unnecessary. It's not something you need to do regularly.

If you wish, you can find more about String Translation here:

Hi Lucas,

The other area that I don't know if I should update regularly is the 'translate link targets'. It does seem to update but I have no idea where, or the importance of this. I've attached an image.

Many thanks
Holly
