Problem:
The client's homepage in English is not working correctly. While French is the main language and other pages translate without issues, the English homepage redirects to the main URL instead of its translated version. The client noticed that the translation is incomplete as indicated by the absence of a pencil icon next to the translation, and they are unable to remove it from the translation list.
Solution:
If you're experiencing a similar issue where the homepage translation does not work and keeps redirecting to the main URL, we recommend checking if the translation job is stuck due to being assigned to another user. You can cancel the translation job by following the steps outlined in our documentation: How to Cancel Translation Jobs.

Please note that this solution might not apply to your situation if it's outdated or not relevant to your specific case. If after trying the suggested steps the problem persists, we encourage you to open a new support ticket. We also highly recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.

The homepage on the website is not working in English. French is the main language and the translation of every other page works, but the translation does not work just on the homepage in English. It just redirects back to the hidden link URL. It won't go to hidden link as it should.

I have looked online for help with the issue and can see that the translation is not complete. The pencil icon does not show beside it. However, nothing I do is fixing this issue. When I got to "WPML" and then translations it won't let me remove it from the list.

I would appreciate your help with this.

Hi Aoife,

so you mean you click the "+" icon, the pencil appears, and then it reverts to the "+". Is this correct? Or do you see any other status icon?

This would indicate that it's currently being translated from another user, which can be canceled as translation manager as described here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/#how-to-cancel-translation-jobs.

Hello Marcel,
I thought it was working but actually it wasn't, the same issue is still happening on the homepage. When I try to go to hidden link it just redirects.

I have deleted all the translation jobs as you said, but it still is not working.
You can see the English side of the site here, where it has that circular icon.

And when I go to the French version (which is the default language) it has this icon.

The English page is published, and I can't see why it would not be working.

This is what the WPML section looks in the backend of the English side:

It says in the French side:

"Warning: You are trying to edit a translation that is currently in the process of being added using WPML.

Please refer to the Translation Management dashboard for the exact status of this translation."

But when I go to translation management I have removed the header block it keeps coming back strangely when I reload the page.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

-Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
-If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Please check your .htaccess and server hosting panel for any 301 redirects.

2) The status of "Main Home" is not really an issue, as your default language is French. So, you are seeing the default language in this state. You have the "wrong language" / secondary language open in your Backend.
