WPML setup does not use SSL/https and duplicate protocol

Background of the issue:
I found this when you asked me to reproduce another bug.
Site is https
The default URL has duplicate http:// and then https://
All other languages it uses http:// by default

This is a problem bc e.g. our real site has non-https external requests blocked for security reasons, which will make the ?____icl_validate_domain=1 request the setup sends fail, since it will be hidden link
