This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is unable to create a fully-functioning staging site replica of their production site using 'subdomain-like' URLs to distinguish languages without changing their hosting subscription.
Solution:
We recommend using the free version of the Duplicator plugin to clone the production site to a staging environment. After importing the site into the staging environment, the client should change the Language URL format to ensure it functions correctly. This approach avoids the need to upgrade the hosting plan.

If this solution does not apply to your situation, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If issues persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
In all these years using WPML, we have never been able to create a fully-functioning staging site replica of our production site. Our homepage URLs are for EN, FR, and ES respectively: hidden link, hidden link, hidden link. Our hosting service says we would need to change our subscription which is already quite significant cost-wise. Your support team seems to be able to do this, is there anyway we can do this please? The use of 'subdomain-like' URLs to distinguish languages was a choice we have regretted every time we tried to build a staging site.

Symptoms:
Unable to create a fully-functioning staging site replica of our production site using 'subdomain-like' URLs to distinguish languages.

Questions:
Is there any way we can create a fully-functioning staging site replica of our production site using 'subdomain-like' URLs to distinguish languages without changing our hosting subscription?

Thanks for your patience.

I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.

✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.

Thank you for your response.

I've investigated the issue and it seems like it might be related to another third-party plugin. Have you considered deactivating your third-party plugins one by one to see if you can pinpoint the one causing the problem? If you decide to do that, please make sure you have a backup prepared on your end.

Hello Kor, thank you for your kind support. I have made a backup and authorise you to do what you consider necessary (deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary).

Hello, no changes on my side, it seems the issue appears randomly, will get back when I see it again as I can't reproduce it at this moment.
