Background of the issue:
We are creating job postings with links to external sites, using Posts and a Post Loop on a page. The only content in the post is a title and an excerpt, so the site does not create a separate post which is what we want. We then enter the link to the external site. The site is built with Salient theme.

Symptoms:
The URLs for these posts are translating, and I cannot see where to override them in the Advanced Editor. Only the text content is showing up for translation, and doing a search for 'http' yields no results.

Questions:
How can I prevent URLs in 'Link' posts from being translated in WPML?
Where can I find the option to override URL translation in the Advanced Editor?

Hi,

Welcome to WPML support. I will provide the first response until this ticket is assigned to one of my colleagues.

From what I see on the screenshot that you shared, this is a feature that your theme most probably provides to have post formatting.

I wonder what does the translated version of that link look like? Can you share the original external link and the translated one so I can compare?

Also please go to WPML > Settings > SCustom Field Trnalsation and search for Link URL there.

If you see an option there, please set it to COPY instead of Translate. But please remember what was the original option so if the issue is not fixed you revert back the option.

After changing the custom field setting you need to go to the original page, and change something on the content of the page (not the link) to trigger the need for update the translation. make sure the translation is 100% complete and see if it fixes the issue.

Thanks.

Hi Christopher, I could not locate the Link URL in WPML > Settings > Custom Field Translation.

I've found the solution myself by using WordPress Editor instead of WPML Translation Editor for these Link Posts, then I can enter the English URL in the link field manually. Once the post is saved, the external URL link is in English as expected.

This issue is now resolved.

Hello,

WPML will usually not include internal links in the WPML Translation Editor and auto-adjust those links once a translation for the content that you are linking to exists.

Anyhow, in the latest version of WPML and of the Advanced Translation Editor you should be able to unlock those links on the UI and adjust them. See screenshot.

Does this not work as expected for you?

Best regards
Andreas
