Background of the issue:
I am trying to ensure the WPML editor works correctly on my site hidden link. My client wants to streamline the translation process by automatically flagging English edits to translators Jaime and Holly. Currently, the process is cumbersome and requires multiple communications.
Symptoms:
1. The WPML editor is not showing buttons for translation, forcing the use of both WPML and WordPress editors. 2. Updating an English post automatically sets the Welsh post to draft, causing a 404 error on the Welsh side.
Questions:
Can someone check the WPML settings on the staging site to ensure everything is set up correctly?
How can we stop the Welsh post from being unpublished every time an English change is made?
Is it possible to flag English edits to the translation team without unpublishing the Welsh version?
My client has provided a summary of the problems and a video:
1. Translator is unusable in current format as it does not update hyperlinks and causes pages to be unpublished any time there is an update made to English.
2. Unusable translator means that some updates have to be made in Editor, which is more time consuming, especially because of the default unpublishing of pages. When the site cache is cleared all links added in Editor are lost and need to be re-done. A HUGE waste of staff time.

Can someone take a look on the staging site please and see why the Welsh Resource posts are getting saved to draft when an update is made on the English.
Thank you for clarifying. I;m getting a second opinion on your issue. I've escalated this to second tier and will update you when I have useful information, which might take a few days. Thank you for your patience so far.
I was able to successfully change the link, but then it disappeared from the editor. I switched to a new editor, and the translation can't be completed. The behavior is inconsistent, that's why I'm getting a second opinion.
I just received an update. It seems that there's some Database corruption on the website, I'm confirming a few things with the devs and will get back to you soon.
Thank you for waiting. So, indeed there was a corruption on the database, apparently creating a conflict with existing content. To solve it, for the Resources that present the issue, ensure to have a backup and follow these steps:
1. Delete the Welsh translation of the resource. To do that, change the language to Welsh in the top bar, send the translation to the trash and completely remove it from the trash can;
2. Go to WPML > Support > Troubleshooting and click on “Remove ghost entries from the translation tables”;
3. Empty all caches;
4. Recreate the translations;
I recorded the process, from step 2 forward: hidden link
Please note that deleting the translations won't mean you will need to recreate them from 0. The translated segments are saved in memory, so they will be most filled automatically. Clearing the cache after didn't have any negative impact. Let me know.
P.S: I could not reproduce the issue of the unpublished pages by any means. If you wish, I can create a new ticket to investigate it, so we can keep things organized and work in parallel. I just need a video (preferably using Loom) of the issue occurring. Send it as a message and I'll create a ticket from it.
Recreating translations will take some time as they may be 40 or 50 plus posts. Is this the only option?
Looking at your video my client would need to enter all the Welsh again?
My client is currently working on updating the live site and has mentioned that after updating the English, a lot of the Welsh posts are now showing a 404 errors
We are not sure how the corruption occurred, it can have thousands of different causes.
You can try the following instead of deleting and recreating the translations:
1. Go to WPML > Support > Troubleshooting and click on “Remove ghost entries from the translation tables”;
2. Empty all caches;
3. Make a small change on the default language page (EN) and save;
4. Empty all caches again;
Then, you can check the translation again. Let me know if this works.
About your questions:
1. Looking at your video my client would need to enter all the Welsh again?
Please note that deleting the translations won't mean you will need to recreate them from 0. The translated segments are saved in memory, so they will be most filled automatically. That didn't happen in the video because I did other things to the post.
2. ...a lot of the Welsh posts are now showing a 404 errors.
Please describe this properly, and I will create a new ticket to investigate it:
How to reproduce the issue? What steps is he following that's leading this to happen? Examples of pages showing 404s.
You also mentioned the issue of unpublished pages. Please try to open new tickets when having other issues. It makes it more organized and quicker to work with. Either you open new tickets, or you explain the issue properly, so I can address it.
