[Resolved] Appearance > Menu administration fields overlap one another
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is experiencing an issue with overlapping fields on the Appearance > Menu page in WP Admin, making it difficult to configure menus. Additionally, the client is unsure if the OTGS Installer plugin is activated correctly after installation, as the 'Activate' link still appears instead of 'Deactivate'.
Solution:
Note: This issue is resolved on WPML v.4.6.8 update.
We recommend updating the WPML plugins to the latest version, as the issue with the overlapping fields has been resolved in the update. Here are the steps to update the WPML plugins: 1. Go to WP admin -> Plugins -> Add new plugin. 2. Switch to the 'Commercial' tab. 3. Select the WPML plugins that need updating and scroll down to the bottom of the list. 4. Check the checkbox 'Activate after download', and click 'Download'.
Before attempting the update, ensure that you have a full backup of your website.
I am in WP Admin on the Appearance > Menu page and trying to configure menus. There is a collection of fields at the top right that has something to do with translations and something to do with the menu selection, but they overlap each other so I can't quite tell what is going on.
I will attach a screenshot so you can see what I mean.
Thank you for contacting WPML Support, I will be happy to help you today.
From the debug information you provided, I noticed that you have WPML v.4.6.7 installed, I would suggest you update the WPML plugins to the last version (v4.6.8) as this issue is already resolved.
Note: Please make sure you have a full backup of your website before making any update.
Thanks, Marsel. I will check with our webmaster if there is already a backup and then, as you suggest, will upgrade WPML to v4.6.8. Thanks for your help! Is it OK to leave this ticket open until tomorrow?
I read that to update my WPML plugin to 4.6.8, I need to install the OTGS Installer plugin, so I downloaded the zip file and uploaded the plugin. It installed successfully. It appears in my list of plugins with an "Activate" link. I clicked the link and got a message that it was activated--but in the list of plugins, the "Activate" link still appears (it doesn't now say "Deactivate"). Is this correct?
You can update the WPML plugins by following these steps:
- go to WP admin -> Plugins -> Add new plugin
- switch to the tab "Commercial"
- you should see a page same as in the image attached
- select the WPML plugins that needs update and scroll down to the bottom of the list
- check the checkbox "Activate after download", and click "Download"
After, the plugins should update.
*Note: Please make sure you have a full backup of the website before trying to update the plugins.
Thanks, Marsel, that worked well. Following your instructions was easy and effective. What should I do with the OTGS Installer plugin? Is it OK to delete it?
Oh, and the problem with the fields on the Menu page is resolved. The fields are nicely distributed on the Menu Structure heading. So, the only question is about whether I can delete the OTGS Installer plugin
The OTGS Installer plugin is used when you first install the WPML plugins, it really doesn't have any function after you have installed the WPML plugins.
You can delete it if you want.
