This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are unsure whether to assign translation credits to a staging/dev site, concerned about whether these credits will be used as real credits.
Solution:
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend selecting the option "Do not share credits" when you encounter the migration banner. This choice ensures that your staging or development site does not use the credits associated with your production site. For more details, you can visit our documentation on Using Advanced Translation Editor when you move or use a copy of your site.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Hi,

I have a staging/dev site in my account. Now the plugin says it has lost connection to your server. To restore the connection I have to pick between shared credits or to not assign credits. Given that I don't know your internal mechanisms when it comes to staging sites like if assign credits to a staging/dev site gets used as real credits or not I'm not sure what to pick here.

Thank you for contacting WPML support.

If I understood correctly, you would like to prevent the staging/dev site from using any translation credits.

In that case, when you see the migration banner, you should select the second option: “Do not share credits.” This ensures that the staging or development site does not use the credits associated with the production site.

Hi,

Since you took so long to respond I read about how a sitekey could be added to wp-config.php which I did on both the dev/staging site and the production site.

This made the staging site get green check-marks as you can see in the attached screenshot.

So I went ahead and selected "Do not share credits". It then said that it would de-register my site but that doesn't seem to have happened? Really strange.

Anyway, I have a more fundamental issue with the plugin and that is to get anything beyond the basics to sync between non-translated versions of Woocommerce products and translated versions of Woocommerce products.

We use a plugin called b2bking for b2b features, and if one thing is added to a product it doesn't sync over to the translated version of the product. As I'm guessing this is a fundamental problem regarding any plugin that will add anything to a product which isn't core Woocommerce, can you give me some guidance as how to on a fundamental technical level solve this without meta key / field per meta key / field case by case fiddeling?
