This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are unable to update the WPML Multilingual CMS due to a critical error occurring when removing and adding the site key. The error message indicates that the update failed because the undefined site key does not match.
Solution:
First, ensure that you are using the correct site key for your WPML Multilingual CMS. We have removed the incorrect key and replaced it with the correct one, which resolved the update issue. Additionally, there is a notification about WPML String Translation attempting to write .mo files to a folder. You should check with your hosting provider to ensure that these folders are writable to prevent future issues.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to it being outdated or not applicable to your case, we highly recommend opening a new support ticket. Also, check the related known issues, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

Can you please share some screenshots of what goes wrong or if you get any error messages? Providing a video recording would be helpful. You can use tools like LOOM.

Thanks,
Drazen

The error is "update failed:undefined" (screenshot attached). I went through some of the resolved tickets for this issue, which suggested removing the registration key and adding it again. But when I try to do that, a critical error appears.

Hello,

thanks.

Seems you have had the wrong key, I have removed it and added the correct one, then updated the plugins, works fine.

Also, there is the message: WPML String Translation is attempting to write .mo files with translations to a folder, make sure to check with hosting and make those folders writable.

Kind regards,
Drazen

Thanks Drazen. Could you please help with a step-by-step process for adding the "correct key"?

I followed these guidelines - https://wpml.org/forums/topic/update-failed-undefined-12/

However, as mentioned, this was causing a critical error for us.

Hello,

I have the same steps and it worked fine, maybe the key you copied was not correct or something else was causing the issue, I am not really sure why or what happened in your case.

If it happens again feel free to contact us again with video of the steps so we can check it out.

Regards,
Drazen
