This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is unsure about the function of the 'Synchronize attributes and update product variations' button in the context of translating variable products. They are confused because they thought variations were automatically generated when translating variable products.
Solution:
We explained that the 'Synchronize attributes and update product variations' button is crucial for keeping original variations and their translations up-to-date. This button becomes particularly useful when there are changes in attributes or variations that require updates. In the client's scenario, the presence of 118 variations needing creation suggests that these are updates rather than entirely new variations. By clicking this button and allowing the process to complete, the client should see their product variations correctly synchronized.
We recommend regularly checking this function when updating or creating new attributes, or when making changes to variable products, to ensure all translations are current.

Background of the issue:
Translating variable products

Symptoms:
I do not understand the function of the 'Synchronize attributes and update product variations' button because I thought variations were automatically generated when translating variable products.

Questions:
When I go to: Taxonomy translation > Product Color
Then there is a button with the labeled: "Synchronize attrbutes and update product variations"
underneath it says:
"This will automatically generate variations for translated products corresponding to recently translated attributes.
Currently, there are 118 variations that need to be created."

What is this function exactly doing and how can i find the products that are missing variations?
I do not quite understand this because when i am translating variable products (always automatically), the variations are automatically generated

Hey there,

Thank you for sharing the details. This function is used to keep original variations and translated variations up-to-date. It usually shows, when there's a change in attributes or variations of translations that needs an update.

In your case, it's likely that there are 118 translations that need syncing (that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't exist, it's just an update). You can just click the button, wait for the process to finish and everything should be good 🙂

For future reference, when updating/creating variations, creating new attributes or making changes to variable products, make sure to check this screen occasionally, to see if there's any update necessary.

Hi Lucas

Thank you for your swift reply.

I might be a little paranoid, but I’m not a big fan of running queries without being able to check the result. Is it not possible to see which products these 118 variations belong to?

Hello there 🙂

Unfortunately not. But running that ensures that everything is up to date.
