Background of the issue:
After the last WPML update, I was trying to ensure that the main menu language switcher correctly links from EN to DE and vice versa. The issue can be seen on the page: hidden link.

Symptoms:
The main menu language switcher from EN to DE links to fortis-group.de/eigentumswohnung/ instead of fortis-group.de. Additionally, when switching to the /en version, the HTTPS certificate is shown as insecure only on the homepage of the English version (not the sub pages).

Questions:
Why does the language switcher link to the wrong page when switching from EN to DE?
Why is the HTTPS certificate shown as insecure on the English homepage (not the sub folder pages)?

Hello,

1)  In order to expedite handling your support requests, can you please share WPML support debug information from your site.

- To give debug information, login to your site and go to WPML → Support. From there click on the “debug information” link at the bottom of the page.
- Once on the “debug information” page, select the entire content of the text box and copy it.
- Now go back to our support forum, find debug information box and paste it.

More information on the link: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support/

2) How are you adding this language swticher to menu? Since I see the one showing in top bar works fine and directs to DE homepage.

Regards,
Drazen

Hi,

1) I have time on Wednesday to send you the debug info. So please don't close the ticket
2) The language switcher I built within the WEPML settings: The top bar and main menu. The main menu isn't working properly any more after the update: Switch from German to English and then back it shows you a different page than the home page. And it's changing (?!)
3)The English version is also https but now is shown as insecure (?).
This all happende after the last update.

Thanks!

Hello,

1) Sure, please take your time when you can and send the debug info.

2) If possible, please try to test if the issue with language switcher happens when using WPresidence parent theme and only WPML plugins and Elementor, all other disabled.

Best would be to test on the staging site, not production site, and have a backup just in case.

Let me know.

Thanks,
Drazen

The admin cloned the page to the test environment prev2.fortis-group.de. then the https error automatically was corrected. then the amdin cloned it back to fortis-group.de (with duplicator). Now the error is fixed and the main menue language switcher correctly switches between languages. Now, I am unsure how to proceed with the wpml key or which answer to choose, see attachement: hidden link to hidden link ?? I would have expected hidden link to hidden link

Thanks!

Hello,

great, glad to hear that.

It can happen sometimes if it is moved from same domain back and forth, you can follow next guide:

- https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/#using-wpml-on-two-domains

Thank you!

Please give me more details what exactly to do.
Because the notice ist instead of prev2.fortis-group.de is a copy of fortis-group.de ...how to handle it..." it's "fortis-group.de is a copy from fortis-group.de, how to handle it".......
Attached you see the wpml note.

According your link, does this mean I need to do this steps:

Using WPML on Two Domains Pointing to the Same Website
If you’ve set up your WordPress site so that two domains point to the same website, WPML might see this as a site move or copy. When WPML sees this dual domain setup, it shows you the migration wizard and stops you from translating on the secondary domain until you finish the wizard.

However, if both domains point to the same website on the same server, you should not use the migration wizard. Instead, follow these steps:

From either your primary or secondary domain, go to WPML → Support and click on the Troubleshooting link.
On the WPML Troubleshooting page, click the button labeled Force-enable WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor.

prev2 is the developer site.
Do I need to generate new keys and assign it to the developer and production site?

On prev 2 developer site I have already chosen
Yes, this is only a copy of the original site......
I could share you credentials of developer site prev2 and you can have a look at it.

Hello,

thanks for getting back.

We limit 1 issue per ticket to keep things clear. This will help other users with similar problems to find solutions when searching the forum.

I have opened a new ticket for you and other doubts and lets continue there
- https://wpml.org/forums/topic/split-wpml-notice/

I will be closing this ticket now since seems no more doubts about the topic and your language switcher works fine.

Regards,

Drazen
