Background of the issue:
I updated WPML and enabled auto translate, thinking it would be helpful. I translated many items that needed translation. However, my store sales dropped significantly for 3 or 4 days. WooCommerce support discovered that permalinks had changed. They reverted the English permalinks, but the French, German, and Dutch pages now show 404 errors on Google. Sales are still down. The issue can be seen here: hidden link.
Symptoms:
Changed permalinks caused the store to crash, and the French, German, and Dutch pages now show 404 errors.
Questions:
What can you do to fix the permalink issue and restore sales?
Thank you for contacting WPML support—I'd be happy to help with this issue.
Apologies for the delay in response; we’re currently experiencing a high volume of tickets.
I’ve checked the link you provided and it seems to be working fine on my end. Could you please share a few more examples of pages where you're seeing the issue? That will help me investigate further.
This kind of issue is often related to permalink settings or the status of translated content. Please try the following steps:
- Go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes (no changes needed—just save).
- Navigate to WPML → Languages → Language URL format and temporarily switch to “Language name added as a parameter”.
- Check the post status:
- Go to Dashboard → Pages.
- Switch the language to your secondary languages.
- Make sure the translated pages are Published and not set to Draft.
- Also, ensure that the translations are marked as 100% complete in WPML.
Let me know if these steps help, or if you need further assistance. I’m here to help!
Thanks
