Background of the issue:
I am trying to auto translate the entire site. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link. I expected to see posts, custom taxonomies, and content on all pages translated to French.

Symptoms:
Post titles are translated but not the content. Only some taxonomies were translated. Content on some pages was completely missed by the auto translator, and I cannot manually change it via the advanced translation tool.

Questions:
Is there a quick way to sync the translated post dates with the originals?

Thanks for contacting us. I can see the missing translations on your posts. Could you please navigate to Translation Management and check "Posts" CPT and let me know the status of the translation over there?

Also, please check WPML > Support > Error Logs(scroll down to the bottom) and let me know if you see any errors being logged.

Most of the statuses on the posts are "FR: complete", but a couple appear to be stuck in "FR: in progress (unassigned)". As for the error logs, most if not all of the errors below the few in the screenshot are the "WPML Failed to check language pairs" error.

Thanks for your reply.

I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.

✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.

Thanks for your reply.

I've added the custom XML configuration below into WPML > Settings > Custom XML Configuration and the content shows translated now here hidden link . Please resend all your posts for translation(you will not be charged with credits) and it will fix it.

<wpml-config>
  <gutenberg-blocks>
    <gutenberg-block type="core/paragraph" translate="1">
      <xpath>//li/strong</xpath>
      <xpath>//li</xpath>
      <xpath>//p</xpath>
      <xpath>//h2</xpath>
      <xpath>//h4</xpath>
    </gutenberg-block>
  </gutenberg-blocks>
</wpml-config>

Okay thanks, I'll do that. To be clear I should be selecting "overwrite existing translations" here?

Thanks for your reply. Please try the option "Overwrite Existing Translations" on a few posts that you're having issues with and see if it works fine. If all is good, you may proceed with all your posts.

First batch worked. However, it seems I'm not able to finish because the account has run out of credits

Thanks for your reply. It shouldn't consume any credits since the contents are the same. Did you see any charges when you sent the post for translation again?

May 20, 2025 at 6:34 pm #17054345

robertJ-35

It must have charged credits when I sent the first batch, because I believe there was around 50000 there before and there's 714 now. It was my understanding that selecting overwrite existing would send it for translation again, consuming credits in the process.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like you've overlooked my reply. I've mentioned here https://wpml.org/forums/topic/auto-translations-not-working/#post-17053993 to try the option "Overwrite Existing Translations" on a few posts that you're having issues with.

But since you've already triggered it, there is no going back unless I refund the credits to you(I will have to check first). Could you try using the "Leave Existing Translations as they are" option and see if it fixes the remaining posts?

robertJ-35

No, I saw that reply.

You said: "Please resend all your posts for translation(you will not be charged with credits) and it will fix it.".

Then I asked this, for the specific purpose of not accidentally wasting credits: "To be clear I should be selecting "overwrite existing translations""?

At that point you probably should mention that it would costs credits, because you had literally just told me I would not be charged with credits.

Anyhow, I will try running it again with "Leave Existing Translations as they are"

I'm not able to run the translations, the button is disabled and says "Selected content is already translated"

Thanks for your reply.

It looks like the only way to fix this would be to trigger the translations manually. You'll have to edit the posts that you're having issues with and click on the save button. Then, retranslate the post by clicking on the "pencil" icon on the sidebar translation option. If you're unsure, please let me know, and I will share a screen recording.

I have tried this method, but I must've missed something in the process. Could you please share a screen recording?
