Background of the issue:
I am trying to delete images permanently on my site hidden link. I deleted them in both my languages in the media library and I even selected the option 'delete translated posts'.

Symptoms:
I can still find the deleted image on the server.

Questions:
How long does it take for the images to be really gone?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly.

WPML doesn't create any files on your host, it just duplicates image data in DB, but still uses the default language file, like WP usually does. It is always only 1 file. If you wish to delete the file from your host you will need to delete all other language data and default language file, you can also simply disable WPML plugin and delete images from your media library.

Regards,
Drazen

Well disabling WPML to delete some media does not seem like a solution.
I deleted the image for both languages dutch and french.
I do not understand what I am doing wrong.
What other language info do I have to delete for the media?

Hi there,

go to Media -> use the language switcher at the top and select "All Languages", are you able to locate the media?

If no, are you able to locate the media by using the directory URL in the browser?

How are you able to confirm that the media still exists in the server after deleting?

Hey I did indeed delete them for all languages.
In the images I will show you an example.
I deleted old header images (header2, header3,...), you can see that I searched in the admin on "header" for both NL & FR (2 different screenshots).
But on the other image you can see that the old files are still there. Perhaps those are variants of the file (automatically generated different resolutions), but all should be gone.

header search nl.jpg
header search fr.jpg

I believe I have seen a similar issue before in our forum.

Searching for it and will update shortly with some steps on how we can resolve this.

The issue I remember and also mentioned in the article you shared refers to this one:
https://wpml.org/errata/media-files-are-not-deleted-when-the-option-when-deleting-a-post-delete-translations-as-well-is-active/

Our team has since fixed this as it is not recent.

As a test, may I ask you to try the workaround mentioned.

Let me know your results, please.

In the meantime, I further will consult with our team.
