This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
If you're experiencing a black screen with a 'get Adobe Flash Player' message when switching to English after changing the default language on your website, it might be due to a folder conflict.
Solution:
We recommend checking your website's directory for a folder named 'en'. This folder could be causing the issue by interfering with the language switch functionality. You should either delete this folder or rename it. For instance, renaming it to 'en-old' might resolve the issue.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to change the default language from Greek to English on my website. The issue can be seen at hidden link.

Symptoms:
When I change the default language, the home page is in Greek as it should. Clicking on the English language switch results in a black screen with a 'get Adobe Flash Player' message.

Questions:
Why does a black screen with a 'get Adobe Flash Player' message appear when switching to English?

When I change form "Different languages in directories" to "Language name added as a parameter" the home page is working.
So I will leave it as it is until you solve the problem.
You can see it recreated at hidden link when you click in the eng flag switcer.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

First of all, sorry for the late reply; it was due to a higher workload.

I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please back up your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi,

Thanks for the access details. I checked the issue and found a folder named (en), which caused the issue. (Kindly check the attached screenshot)

In order to fix the issue, please delete this folder or rename it.

I renamed it to (en-old) on the staging site, which fixed the issue.

Best regards,
Osama
