[Resolved] Plugin creating duplicates with /nn/ URL
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is encountering unwanted URLs with /nn/ in their sitemap, despite using /no for Norwegian. The issue persists even though Norwegian URLs are displayed correctly. Solution: We discovered that the unwanted /nn/ URLs were appearing because the Norwegian Nynorsk (nn) language had been added and then removed from the site without deleting the associated posts. To resolve this, the client needs to: 1. Ensure that all posts associated with the Norwegian Nynorsk (nn) language are deleted. 2. Remove the Norwegian Nynorsk language from the site settings if it is no longer needed. This should prevent the /nn/ URLs from appearing in the sitemap.
If this solution does not apply to your situation, or if it seems outdated, we recommend opening a new support ticket. Additionally, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to get rid of unwanted URLs with /nn/ from the sitemap. The issue can be seen on this sitemap page: hidden link.
Symptoms:
I expected to see no URLs with /nn/, but instead, I got URLs with /nn/. We are currently using the standard /no for Norwegian, and Norwegian URLs are actually correctly displayed, but also the others /nn/.
Questions:
How can I remove unwanted URLs with /nn/ from the sitemap?
I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Could you double check the credentials? I'm getting "Error: The username wpml is not registered on this site. If you are unsure of your username, try your email address instead."
We are currently still adding content to the website. Can you please tell us when to do a new backup - if needed - so you can proceed with investigations?
I've added a new language nn (Norwegian Nynorsk) here hidden link and I could see some posts appears here hidden link . Looks like this language has been added earlier and you've removed it. Before you remove it, you need to remove the posts. If not, it will show in the XML.
Hey Kor, looks like it was this the exact way to solve this.
It was a bit of amistery because we never used the NN language previously, probably there was some error in duplicating URLs when migrating the content.
Thank you very very much for your help. I deleted already the content. I'll see to remove the NN language.
Many thanks again, hope you'll have a great night!
