[Resolved] Split: The italian language needs to be mapped
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You noticed that the Italian language was translated with DeepL and is not available with the WPML AI engine, even though the language mappings show it should be possible. Solution: We explain that this issue arises because German is your site's default language. Currently, the WPML AI engine only supports translations from English to German and Italian and vice versa. It does not support translating from German to Italian directly. To resolve this, we recommend enabling another translation engine like DeepL, which can handle translations from German to Italian.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
What I also noticed in the export: the italian language was translated with deepl and is also not available with WPML AI even though the language mappings show it should be possible. See screenshots.
According to our tests, this issue with the Italain language not being mapped with the WPML AI engine will be solved in the next version of WPML. We tested this on a sandbox site with the beta version of WPML - 4.7.0-b.1. You can also check our sandbox site by using this link.

To validate this, our second-tier supporters suggested I install the WP STAGING plugin on your site. This will enable us to quickly create a staging site and test if the issue is solved on your site with the next version of WPML. For this, we need your permission to install the WP STAGING plugin. Do you allow us to proceed?
Alternatively, if you already have a staging site where we can test this, please share the access details with us and allow us to proceed with replacing WPML with the 4.7 beta version. I'm enabling a private message for the following reply.
Unfortunately, the problem persists also on the staging site. I need to escalate this issue to our second-tier supporters. Please allow me to take a copy of your site. I must install a plugin like Duplicator or All In One Migration for this. Please let me know if you agree.
Our second-tier supporter explains that the message about Italian shows because German is your site's default language. So, with the WPML AI engine, it is only possible to translate from English into German and Italain and vice versa. But, with the WPML AI engine, you can't translate German into Italian. The second-tier supporter says this message will disappear if you enable another translation engine like DeepL.
