Background of the issue:
I am trying to update the translation of the homepage using WPML. This is old content, and WPML is set to use the classic editor for old content. The issue can be seen at hidden link.
Symptoms:
The Dutch to English translation shows the content twice in the editor, once as separate content blocks and once as all content in one block. The Dutch to French translation opened up the advanced editor instead of the classic one, showing pretty much all translations empty. After exiting the translator, I cannot enter the translation editor again and receive the error message: 'WPML tried to translate this page three times and failed. To get it fixed, contact WPML support.'
Questions:
How can I fix the issue with the Dutch to English translation showing content twice?
Why did the Dutch to French translation open in the advanced editor and how can I resolve the error preventing access to the translation editor?
I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.
Our Debugging Procedures
I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.
- Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this: hidden link
Would it be okay if I install the Adminer plugin? I'd like to take a look at this post in the database and see if the strings are stored twice there. Thanks!
Thanks for allowing me to install the Adminer plugin. I was able to find the string pages in the database under the _icl_string_packages table. I would like to test if deleting them from there resolves the issue, however, I'm not 100 sure if that will keep the translated content intact. Please confirm that. you have a full backup and let me know if it is okay to remove the string package for this particular page from the database. If you have a copy of your site where you would prefer me to test this, just let me know and I"ll be happy to test it there.
