Background of the issue:
In WPML, in the Translation Management section under the Translation Dashboard tab, I selected the translation from EN to SK and sent them to MateCat via Assign translation service. In MateCat, I translated, checked, and properly closed all the jobs. In WPML, I used the 'Check status and get translations' button to pull all translated jobs back into WPML, and all jobs were marked as finished.
Symptoms:
After viewing the SK version of the site, the translations appeared different from the ones completed in MateCat, looking like they were machine translated without our editing.
Questions:
Why are the translations on the SK version of the site different from the ones completed in MateCat?
How can I ensure that the edited translations from MateCat are correctly displayed on the site?
We can not try clicking "Check status and get translations" again to re-sync because in the meantime they have already been archived in matecat and in WPML assigned to the translator for "manual" revision directly via WPML
Supposedly, the translation you made in Matecat should be exactly the same as the website, so could you please go to WPML -> Translation Management -> Jobs and send me a screenshot from the jobs tab with a highlight on the job that has the issue?
Also, if you can show me the difference between the translation in Matecat and the website in screenshots, that will help me understand the case here.
Hi, those jobs are completed, so we can't see them in the Jobs tab anymore.
Screesnshots from our SK website (after importing translations from matecat) and from completed matecat job - totally different.
Thanks for providing the screenshots.
Supposedly, you can see the job in the jobs tab even if it's completed.
As I can see in the screenshots you provided that you are using the ATE.
ATE(Automatic translation editor) behaves like a professional translation service, and it cannot get the data that was translated by other professional translation services.
To see the translation you need, you'll need to use the CTE (Classic Translation Editor).
You can change the editor settings by going to WPML -> Settings, scrolling to the "How to translate posts and pages" section and choosing the editor you want.
On another note, We are not recommending using different translation methods for the same page at the same time because it is going to cause some confusion and most probably it is the cause of the issue you have right now.
So, for the case here, you translated the about page using Matecat translation service and using the ATE (automatic translation Editor) which is two different methods and each one of them has it is own translation memory, which caused the problem you mentioned.
So please make sure to use only one Translation method at a time, and make sure if you want to review translations that come from the MateCat translation service, review them in the CTE, not in ATE.
Second problem which is being investigated is that in the automated process of pushing the files from the WPML into MateCAT and back, it is not possible to use LARA, which is giving the better results than default (and only) option Modern MT Lite. If the files are added manually into the MateCAT, LARA can be used, however we do have a problem to upload them translated back into WPML.
Please, lets go back to the original problem. Please send us the step by step guide how to import the translations we did via MateCATE onto the website when they were rewritten by ATE (Automatic translation editor) in WPML. We need to have the correct translations there, not the ones some random machine translation engine in WPML did.
This is not an option for us. We need to get our translated xliff files to WPML. Those files, that were sent directly from WPML to Matecat and back and WPML decided to rewrite them with some MT nonsense. So now, how can we do that? Can you please "unlock" this rule that I need to be the owner of a jobs in order to import translated jobs?
This is Ahmed Ibrahim from the WPML Integration team. I'll be assisting you while Ahmed M is away for a couple of weeks.
I’ve reviewed the full conversation, but it’s a bit unclear what exactly happened previously—especially since you mentioned that the jobs no longer appear under the Translation Jobs tab.
To help us investigate further, could you please do the following:
- Re-send the same job (the one that had the issue) to MateCat.
- Once sent, take a screenshot of the job in the Translation Jobs tab and share it with me so I can get the TP-ID.
- Please also confirm with MateCat that the job was translated using Translation Memory and that no additional charges were applied.
- After MateCat completes the job, please use the "Check status and get translations" button in WPML to fetch the translation.
Important:
Kindly avoid opening the WPML Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) or the local editor for this job while the translation process is ongoing. Doing so may cancel the job on MateCat's side.
With the TP-ID, I’ll be able to trace the job in our system and compare the returned content with what we received from MateCat to determine whether the issue occurred again.
Let me know once you’ve completed the steps above or if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Ahmed Ibrahim
