This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is trying to edit the French version of their posts using the regular WordPress editor instead of the WPML Advanced Editor. They find the process of having to first go through the Advanced Editor to create a 'not-really French' translation before being able to use the WordPress editor tedious and are looking for a way to directly edit posts with the regular WordPress editor.
Solution:
We recommend checking the documentation on Using Different Translation Editors for Different Pages. To use the regular WordPress editor for translations, you should:
1. Go to the WordPress Edit Page for the default language of the post.
2. Ensure that on the right side, you select the WordPress Editor instead of the WPML Advanced Editor.

Please note that this solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. If after following these steps you still encounter issues, we highly recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket. You can reach out to us on the WPML support forum for further assistance.

Tell us what you are trying to do?

We have an English (default) & French (2nd language) website.
I am currently working on our development version of the site. I want to edit the French version of my posts in the regular WordPress editor. It always wants to throw me into the Advanced editor (which goes line by line).

The only way I seem to be able to get it to stop is to go through the Advanced Editor process but just copy everything over, save it, then I have a not-really French translation. AFTER that is saved, and I have a French translation, I have the option to use the WordPress editor, but not before.

This is a little tedious. Surely I should be able to just edit any existing or new post with the regular WordPress editor without using the Advanced Editor. What am I missing?

Is there any documentation that you are following?
The documentation for translating posts and pages.

What is the link to your site?

Hi there.

Please take a look here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

You will need to go to the WordPress Edit Page for the default language of that page and make sure that on the right side you select the WordPress Editor instead of WPML's editor.

I hope that you will find this information helpful.
