When I finally successfully import my custom translations of three post types (post, policy, and publication) with languages correctly linked up in my Dev site, I would like to install WPML there on my Live site as well, and transfer my three translated post types there from the Dev site.
After this, I would like to auto-translate the rest of the website, including Pages.
Questions:
1. Is it possible to turn on "translate everything" without wiping out custom, imported translations? (ie. will they be overwritten by "translate everything?")
2. Is it possible to turn on "translate everything" for just one post type? (e.g. Pages)?
I couldn't tell for sure from where I was looking in the documentation, so, thank you.
Thank you for contacting WPML support, I’m happy to help you with this issue.
1. The Translate Everything mode doesn't re-translate the content (post, page ...) that is translated already. So it won't wipe out custom, imported translations.
2. Yes, it is possible. After enabling the mode Translate Everything Automatically, you can disable the option "Translate automatically" in the section Post Types Translation for other post types.
Please check this screenshot hidden link
Or change the translation preference of other post types to "Translatable - use translation if available or fallback to default language". The Translate Everything mode only works with the preference "Translatable - only show translated items".
