Hi there,

I want to show the language switcher in my posts. It's always been there, but has somehow disappeared, and my settings are correct.

It's probably something in the CSS?? Guessing here. 🙂

Example: hidden link
hidden link

Best regards,
Kim

Hello Kim,

Thank you for contacting the support.

I just checked the links you provided and can see a language switcher (in the menu - see attached).

Are you referring to this one or in some other place in the posts? Can you please explain and share some screenshots for understanding? Did you mean it was before or after the post? (i.e. https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/#add-a-language-switcher-above-or-below-post-content).

Please also share how you added that language switcher previously. It would be great to check the settings in WPML and share the screenshot(s) showing the options (https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/#language-switcher).

Regards.

Hi Waqas,

With posts I mean blog posts, so articles. Not the navigation.
So this is a post: hidden link
And this is a post: hidden link
And I have many more posts.

At the top of each post (between the image and the text) there used to be the option to switch languages. It somehow disappeared even though I did not adjust the settings.

I do not remember how I added the language switcher earlier, as I did that in 2020.

I have checked the settings in WordPress myself (while using the article), but I can't figure out what is wrong. And then I created the support ticket. 🙂

Thank you for the details.

Looks like there's been an update either for your theme or a plugin (including WPML) which may have caused it (i.e. either a conflict or a feature update rendering some incompatibility). However, these are just guesses at this point. I am also seeing several errors in browser console (including some CSS and other resources missing).

Can you please try to turn off "Show links above or below posts, offering them in other languages" in WPML -> Languages and save? Then turn it back on and save. Then clear all caches and check if it helps.

If that doesn't work, please try the following?

IMPORTANT: Take full backup of your website and database beforehand. It is highly advised to try the following on a staging/dev site first, so your live website isn't compromised.

- Deactivate all plugins except WPML and its addons and check for the issue.
- Activate each plugin one-by-one, while keeping check on the issue after a plugin is activated. This way you'll be able to pinpoint a plugin having a conflict (or problem), if any.
- If the problem persists, repeat the above steps with a default theme of WordPress (i.e. 2021 or 2023).

Please let me know and I'll try my best to help you further on the matter.

Hi Waqas,

I tried the first suggestion, but that doesn't work.
So I have to get in touch with my hosting and support company to try the second option.

You are absolutely sure it doesn't have anything to do with the css?
I'm asking because that was part of the solution in my previous ticket.

Thanks!
Kim

Thank you for the updates.

I don't think it is the same with this. Previously you had it misplaced and fixed by CSS.

Please let me know once you've tried the other suggestions.

Hi Waqas, I've asked my tech guy but we can't figure it out. I've attached a screenshot. Do you see anything that could explain the issue?

Not really sure. However, have you tried with WPML and a default theme only?

I'll advise to prepare a staging/dev site, try those debugging steps and reproduce the issue. Then you can provide the temporary access to the staging site for investigation.

This way your production site 'll not be compromised.
