Background of the issue:
I am trying to configure WPML on my site, hidden link, to have English as the default language. However, the site identifies Greek as the default language in pages, even though English is set as the default language in the WPML configuration.
Symptoms:
The site identifies Greek as the default language in pages, while English is set as the default language in the WPML configuration.
Questions:
Why is the site identifying Greek as the default language instead of English?
How can I ensure that English is recognized as the default language on my site?
Thank you for contacting WPML support. I'll be happy to help you with this. Were the pages originally created in Greek? If so, changign the default language does not automatically change the original language of the page, because content can be created in any language. To confirm these, please edit the page and in the languages box, does it say "This is a translation of" - check this in both languages and let's determine what the original language is. If you want to change the original language, you can unlink them by selecting "this is a translation of" and set it to none. Save the page, Then, when you go to connect them back you should see a pop up confirming which language you want to be the "original" language of the page.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance and I will be happy to help.
Thank you for reaching out. NO, the original content and language on the site is English. The strange thing is that everything was working as it should. In the latest updates it broke. How can we fix this error?
